Unless they hired a Saban clone like Smart. Outside of Smart, who basically copied Saban’s entire system, no coach was coming in and winning a title with this Bama team in years 1-3.

Bama made a conscious choice to hire a coach that was an exact opposite of Saban but keeping Saban in the house.

It was always going to be growing pains s the culture changed from Saban’s to DeBoers. It is very rare to have coaches come in and take over a team from a previous coach that is completely different in approach and people expect the new coach to keep the old guy’s system.

Bama fans will whine and moan, and DeBoer will struggle this season and maybe next, but he’s a decent coach. If they give him time, he will have a competitive team for a playoff spot. If they run him off in the next year or two and refuse to let him make it his team, they will go into limbo for half a decade or more.

In the end, it will be a tough season, but not the end of the world.

Yep... Kalen can win with his guys. This is why Bernard and Parker are our best two players offensively.

Our original roster is one that needs a hard arse to motivate them.

DeBoer wants guys who are mentally mature already.

What’s pathetic coping then? You mean the guy that posted after me?

He’s right. Saban was able to get the lazy SOBs to put in the work and effort. It wasn’t just his ability to recruit talent. He was a motivator and perhaps it was with fear or respect, but it worked.

Not all coaches are built like that. Some are more technicians of the game. They can flourish with the right type of player. A guy like Penix was self motivated to overcome Al those injuries and still prove himself. Those UW teams were initially built by Petersen and he was similar to DeBoer. Thus it worked out great.

Mistake was DeBoer didn’t pick the situation best suited for him. He took the supposed crown jewel job that was the opposite of a fit for him. That is both from a football and cultural angle. Bama fans are insane. West coast fans are not.

That last part. Yes. He's the wrong dude for the job. Always was. I don't think that's going to be remedied. Could be wrong. Have been many times. But this is the chew toy they hired after Saban to absorb all the hate that was guaranteed to happen when someone that's not God's own gift to coaching college football takes the reigns of Alabama. They knew this would happen.
They hoped it wouldn't and rolled the dice but they knew. There's no way you don't get a massive letdown after the greatest coach in the history of the game retires.

Are you just listing off the coaching archetypes in EA CFB 26?

This was Brian Harsin's approach as well. Good luck with the 3 stars.

It just takes time…Deboer will eventually get the culture changed more in line with his vision. Hang in there at least few years Bama.
