Strong week 1 opponents. What are your thoughts?

Regardless of wins, losses, etc. I like seeing really good week 1 match-ups. I'm sure some fans prefer the easy win and with a 9 game SEC schedule, maybe teams move to have one of their cupcake games as a season opener, but personally, I hope some programs keep scheduling tough games for their opener.
Also, really hard to believe that a team like mizzou has only had one really tough season opener.... and that was strictly due to covid.

I mean he threw for 4,000 yards and 29 touchdowns a year ago but OK.

Yeah, watching this conference gang bang Mercer is kind of embarrassing.

If you are a serious title contender, I think a big opener does nothing but help your team. It instills a different sense of urgency to summer and fall camp.
For true top 5-10 matchups like Texas/Ohio St, a win is a massive boost to confidence and your playoff resume. A loss is recoverable and a "wake up" to your team.
If you lose to a quality but not great team like USC, it is probably just a sign that you weren't playoff caliber to begin with. Playing the quality opponent isn't why the season didn't go well.

Guess LSU can't play powerhouses like Long Island University for our opener

Try some punctuation.

Hey.... you're new here, so STFU.
Bit if the shoe fits for your program and y'all have never scheduled so much as a week 1 top 25 team..... you're just sad.

Not as good as this flop that the uscE fans here was calling a late hit!! At least Nuss decided to play the rest of the game.

It's hard to not prefer at least a decent matchup. It's nice to start the year 1-0 with an easy win but Marshall doesn't wake me up the same as Clemson did or Oregon did

Tough matchups in game one are good for the fans. From my perspective, I’d prefer my team get a high quality OOC matchup in one of their first three games.

He was also 12th in the SEC in YPA, and 10th in passer rating.
Jackson Dart threw for more yards despite 127 fewer attempts.
I'm not saying Nuss won't turn out to be a stud - he may very well be - but just posting total yards from last year without context is being intellectually dishonest.

^^^ Exhibit A, bama fans want to always play an easy game 1.

It is also intellectually dishonest to post this without mentioning that Chris Hilton (the only deep threat on the entire roster) was injured most of the year and was a non factor until the season finale and the bowl game in which he averaged 33 YPC with 3 TD's.
I'd say going for 4,000 without a true vertical deep threat in your offense is even more impressive if we're being intellectually honest about it.
