Kansas over Virginia Schools

Texas, Missouri, A&M, and OU are here. I know a lot of y'all boys don’t frick with that, some days I don’t either. But here we are. Puppets to ESPN.
If this thing goes even bigger, assuming North Carolina is the first add and the Florida/SC schools are off the table, go Kansas. We’re already the best Football and Baseball conference. Add UNC/Kansas, now you’re legitimately THE basketball conference as well.
Kansas has more money to spend athletically than 85% of the SEC, they’re loaded. They’re overhauling athletic facilities across the board. They’re pushing the boundaries of Southern, but there’s enough familiarity with the western SEC schools to aid the transition. If you can’t land FSU/Clemson, give me Kansas over the Virginia schools. I’d argue Kansas has just as much upside as UNC in the SEC.

I don't think anything is necessarily off the table.
Once the first biggish domino falls, there's going to be more pressure regarding the rest of them. ESPN is not going to want to fall behind on content to Fox.
What I don't completely get are the actual values an entity like ESPN places on the Clemsons, Florida States, and Miamis. As fans I always see the tendency to value them based on how well they perform, but there are other metrics more important to television networks. They may be ancillary to how well they perform, but they're not identical.
For example, a mediocre Texas is still going to command a premium by dint of population, alumni base, and historical interest. A bad Texas program will still command eyeballs in a way another program might not.
But TCU, with a much more recent appearance in the national title game, does not command much of a premium at all. I'm not saying TCU is comparable to Clemson/FSU/Miami. I'm simply saying there has to be a sense the program commands eyeballs beyond their contemporaneous win/loss record.
I just feel like we're clearly heading to a 3 conference system, with the Big 10 and the SEC carving up the ACC, and the rest of them merging with the Big 12. Which schools go to which conference is a matter of speculation right now, but I would be very suspicious of anyone who tries to convince me that certain programs have no chance of being invited. I'm not saying they will be. I'm just saying all the dynamics haven't played out, yet.

SEC vermin despise rugged Wild West types. They watch wrestling, not Gunsmoke.
Good luck with your objective.

Kansas would enter the SEC with more capital than FSU, Clemson, UNC, Virginia, etc. They’re a big brand waiting to splurge. You could do worse, like Virginia Tech or West Virginia.

Is Kansas basketball a bigger brand than Va/VT football?

Add Kansas, North Carolina and Virginia, there would actually be some decent academic research institutions, rather than the equivalent of Devry Universities in rural backwaters.

Of course it is. What kind of question is that?

They certainly think so.
I guess their value depends on how much value basketball brings.
Regular season basketball earns horrible ratings. Always has.
But the tournament is a golden goose. At some point I assume the Big 10 and SEC are going to make a play for the tournament money in some way, cutting the NCAA out of the action. But that's long term stuff.

They also have a solid baseball program and a rising football program. I’d say their three big 3 coaching staffs are comparable to just about anyone in the country. In just the last decade alone they’ve received over 500M in donations to the athletics program from existing alumni. LSU would have to shut down a dozen more children’s hospitals to come up with that kind of cash.

David Booth is trying to be their Cody Campbell. I don't know if he has the same juice, but he seems all in, which you need in this day and age.

The Kansas Missouri rivalry is underrated.
Mostly because both athletic programs struggle with relevancy. But it's still underrated.

The big and sec are going to gobble up anyone left with brand power then merge. Writing is on the wall.
