Though I don't think much of University of Texas...

Kudos to Longhorn Nation for this guy....
It was the best thing to come out of SEC Football Media Days yesterday.
In the midst of all sorts of football talk came a genuine and beautiful gesture from a Texas Longhorns safety.
The gesture wasn’t about football, but rather about 27 beautiful souls who died too young.
Michael Taaffe met the media on Tuesday, and on his burnt orange tie were the initials of the 27 campers at Camp Mystic who died in the Texas floods on July 4th.
Michael knew one of the camp counselors who died- the tragedy hit Michael in the heart.
So on his tie were the initials of girls like Sarah Marsh of Mountain Brook, AL- Sarah was 8 years old and excited about going into the 4th grade at Cherokee Bend Elementary School this fall (Sarah’s initials are on the right, third from the top on Michael’s tie).
Said Michael Taaffe as he met the media:
“I want to shed light on what’s going on in Texas to the SEC, to everybody around the country. At the end of the day, football is important and it brings us joy, but this is more than football.
“I wanted to show how important this is to us. We’ve been praying continuously for those families and the community, and I want to help them any way I can.”
College football players receive fame and admiration for scoring TD’s and making big plays, but yesterday, a former walk-on put aside football if for just a moment to honor lives lost.
And for that heartfelt gesture, Michael Taaffe deserves fame and admiration from around the world.
*Thanks to ESPN’s Chris Low for granting me permission to post his picture.

What a beautiful thing to do!
EDIT:
Just reading a little more on Mr. Taaffe and he seems like the real deal.
Here is a sappy Tom Rinaldi story, but I think this is a good one about Taaffee and a friend he looked up to as his "big brother."

Warning, somebody must be cutting onions at the end somewhere.

Former walk on, now Sr. leading what is hopefully going to be one of the best defenses in the country, projected 2nd round draft pick… A true man of God.
We are incredibly lucky to have him.
May God be with all the wonderful families that have suffered such an unspeakable loss.
