Sounding like the Big 10 won't budge on being guaranteed 4 teams since the SEC has 8 conference games. Kind of surprised the SEC won't agree to at least a deal where it goes to 14 teams and they both get at least 4 teams with the ACC and Big 12 getting 2 teams each. Maybe the SEC is hoping to get a deal for 9 SEC games.

Let's just stay at an 8 game conference schedule and keep it as it is. The SEC doesn't need the Big Ten to tell them how to make their schedules. The SEC figured out last year that the playoff committee has decided that you are what your W-L says you are. Thus IMO I don't see what we gain by going to a 9 game conference schedule other than a little more TV money from ESPN.

I would need to look at the numbers but the SEC is tougher top to bottom I would think. A 3 loss SEC team will never get the nod over a 1 loss Big 10 team no matter the schedules though I disagree with people that don't think some SEC schedules/wins would have got in at 9-3 over SMU last season. The only issue is if the SEC stays at 8 games we may get a repeat where the SEC only gets 3 teams in while the Big 10 gets 4 in the 12 team format. I think the SEC would be smarter taking the 4 auto bids given the bloodbath it is.

When you 9 game schedule consist of:
Purdue
Rutgers
NW
Mich St
Minnesota
Illinois
Indiana
UCLA
Then you can’t say shite.
Vandy
UK
State
Ark
And those 4 would be almost all of those teams on the Big 10 list

Matchups going down the standings from last year
Oregon/ Texas
Indiana/ UGA
PSU/ Tenn
OSU/Bama
Illinois/LSU
Iowa/ Ole Miss
Michigan/ Mizzou
Minnesota/ USCe
Rutgers/ A&M
USCw/UF
Wash/Ark
MSU/Vandy
Neb/Aub
UCLA/ OU
Wisconsin/UK
NW/State
Maryland and Purdue are left.
Ill take the middle and bottom teams in the SEC and it isn't even close. This is why the SEC doesn't want to go to 9 games and add losses to teams schedule.

Big 10 fans say the SEC showed their rankings were just fluff by the media in the playoff as TN and GA both got smoked and the wins were double overtime etc over easy Big 12/ACC teams.

The B1G fans have a point. SEC was massively over-rated last year.

WHY expand the p/o from 4 to 12 (which is better than omitting at least 1 conference before) for 1 year & then expand it more the next season?

& HOW many times was the subject time of certain matchups brought up in the past?

My view was to take it to 8 teams not to dilute it too much and to keep the regular season more interesting but since they made it 12 teams I have no issue with it being 14 to 16 teams teams after 2 years at 12 teams. I do think with the bloodbath the SEC is we could very likely have a repeat of last season though in 2025 or 2026 where the ACC and Big 12 get 3 teams total in and ND gets a spot while the Big 10 gets 4 spots and the SEC only 3. Sanky might not think so but I think it may be more likely than the Big 10 getting 3 and us getting 4. It's very unlikely a 10-2 SEC or Big 10 gets left out though Indiana might have if they had went 10-2.

The Big 12 should not have any guaranteed spots

I doubt they would ever pass something giving the Big 10 and SEC a guarantee of 4 spots each without the Big 12 and ACC a guarantee of 2 spots each.

The SEC is being exposed right before our eyes. Listen, I fully admit the SEC was the powerhouse in the recent past. But you guys must realize the entire landscape has changed with NIL and the portal and over the past 3 years the depth of talent on SEC teams has been poached via NIL to other conferences.
My team has more 4 stars on our roster than ever - and we didn’t get them from conference USA. We got them from SEC and BIG teams because the players were stuck on the depth chart and were willing to come back to Atlanta for playing time and NIL. Our starting QB was a portal guy from the SEC. Our starting TE was a portal guy from UGA. We’ve had WR’s who portaled from UGA and Bama, Sure, they weren’t starters but they were depth pieces that the SEC has relied on. Miami has been buying SEC players right and left.
And the past 2 playoffs showed all this. There is no way an SEC champ from 4-10 years ago lose to either Michigan, Notre Dame, or Ohio State. That all JUST happened and we all saw it. Those BIG schools have serious money and the balance of power has shifted.
Look at this coming season - no one is scared of any SEC defense anymore because they have shown they are just like everyone else now. My team shredded UGA’s defense last year and Bama is now an offensive team. The SEC’s entire playoff scenario comes down to QB play at Texas, UGA, and LSU because the days of out athletics everyone are way over for the SEC.

I agree. I think GS saw that & did 5-7 or 5-11 to keep XII & ACC as equal instead of Jr. P4 (which B1G’s AQ promotes).

Why shouldn’t the conf. champ (at least)?

I saw “Peek Around The Corner” on YT last night wanting to promote 4-4-3-3-1-1 (or something like that).
I see that as more fair to ACC & XII than only getting 2 with SEC/B1G @ 4 each.

In no word is the third place Big 12 or ACC team playoff worthy. Id rather G5 champs get that spot than 4 loss ACC teams

The basis for the SEC's current TV-contract 'demise' is the inability of Sankey, his 'brain-trust' and the SEC presidents/A.D.'s absolute BLUNDER in NOT negotiating ANY kind of value/escalator clause in the current ESPN/Disney contract ! They FAILED to ascertain the significance of added power-house teams and/or additional conference games....really strange that the 'media' continues to refuse call out the SEC/Sankey...HOW could they be soooo stupid ?

I think it's just made it the SEC and Big 10 and then most of the rest 2nd tier. A few teams may have motivated enough boosters to keep up not in those 2 conferences but it won't be many. It's already changed basketball big time to mostly SEC followed by the Big 10.
