Grumblings about our OL recruiting

I'm seeing some moaning and groaning on other forums about our OL recruiting. Some are saying that Ogboko is the only 'elite' recruit with the others just mediocre. Some are saying we just grabbed some 'table scraps' after we missed out on some big names, mainly the Cantwell kid that stiffed us for Miami.
Graham Houston is ranked the 26th Interior OL, but the others are down in the 30s and even lower on some other sites. Albeit, one site does rank Kykie Helton as the #1 ranked Center.
Anyhow, what say yall about this? Anybody worried? Is there any other high-ranked OLman we're in the running for that's uncommitted?

NIL is the biggest factor. We likely have Cantwell and Kolojay without Miami’s insane NIL offers. Still could get Kolojay as he’s uncommitted but not looking great. The #2 OT just committed to Texas tech and is getting $5.1 million over 3 years.

It sucks we got the ideal coach from the Saban tree right before the table was flipped with NIL. If that doesn’t happen we have classes stacked like vintage Bama.

I heard on radio this morning that's worth more than a 3rd Round NFL Draft selection. It's crazy. TT has some oil billionaire that's a former player and superfan just writing checks like it's nothing. An elite QB makes more sense, but an OL is just one guy on the offensive line, if the rest of them suck he doesn't make much of a difference. It doesn't seem like money well spent.

Before NIL, when Pittman was here, we were stacking elite OL on top of elite OL. And that is what it takes to build a championship caliber line.
This one elite guy and the rest are project guys isn't going to cut it. That is Richt level recruiting. Until Georgia starts to pony up the cash we won't be getting a 5 star OT unless he is a die hard Dawg from birth and willing to take less money to be at Georgia.

To be fair, no one is going to be able to stack OL like that in the NIL era, and someone is still going to win the championship. They’ll just have worse OL play than old championship teams.
I agree that it seems Georgia is unlikely to sign a 5* OT in the near future without some sort of deep connection.

Our OL recruiting dropped off when Matt Luke left. I think it was trending this way before the NIL stuff went haywire.

How motivated will that kid be to work hard and take coaching? Very little IMO.

Matt Luke had some hits but he also took some serious clunkers who never had a chance to step on the field at Georgia in his last few years. Griffin Scroggs was the Kirby Smart-era version of the O lineman from Valwood that Richt signed back in the day.

All I know is that if UGA doesn't improve their OL play a good bit this season, it's not going to make for a really good season.

I say we fire some motherfrickers.

I am.
Pittman was the most elite OL recruiter around but was not necessarily known for being a master coach/teacher.
Luke was a solid recruiter but was regarded as a great OL coach/teacher.
CSS has proven to be a crappy recruiter and doesn't appear to be a good coach either. Bad combo.

That sounds a lot like what I said.

Kirby won't do that until it's painfully obvious to him that he has to.

Kirby is too loyal to his staff to ever win a Natty.

I dunno man...I still say its a bit of a stretch to say this. Monroe Freeling and Bo Hughley were both top 10 OT recruits in the nation and Freeling will start this season and Hughley is a 2nd teamer and looks like he's coming along pretty well. Calhoun, Gaston and Uni are all on the 1 and 2 deep and all look like future stars to me.

I agree. Just pointing out that is what it takes to build an elite OL and in this day and age that will take a lot of money

Who should we fire this season? Let’s get in on this early.

We need to clean house and go after Lane Kiffin. It's clear Kirby doesn't care anymore after two NC's, and Lane still has goals and achievements ahead of him that he's still tenacious about. Let Lane achieve those here. He'll never get them at Ole Miss. If we don't get him, Alabama will when they fire Caitlyn in 2026.

Last year Searels signed a 5*. Currently the Dawgs have a top 100 OT committed. Looking at both 247 and On3, nobody is killing it this year. And dam near all the top OTs are committed and to all different teams.
