...would give a rat's arse if Mizzou pulled an Iowa State and simply dropped baseball?
I've been to some baseball games and the "crowd" always resembles that of a high school junior varsity game.
If there's so little interest, why keep the sport?

crowds were really good when Max Scherzer was there and regional attendance was fantastic anytime we hosted. Softball has been very recently top 10 nationally in attendance. I dont think it would be too hard for baseball to be top 30-35.
I dont want to give up on baseball but I get it if the AD does. We dont have unlimited NIL and I doubt anyone is going to earmark their NIL donation for baseball over basketball and football.

If it's between investing millions of dollars vs. dropping the program, I say drop it. Like you pointed out, the support for the product isn't there, and hasn't been, even when we are decent (or less abysmal).
The alumni baseballers don't seem to GAF about it, so why should anyone else? Someone said the other day "not having a baseball team would be an SEC embarrassment". I don't think it can get any more embarrassing than what we have now.
Save the money and put it towards one of our other fledgling sports. Tough decisions need to be made.

Drop it like it’s hot.

I would rather have an equestrian club or up the hockey club than baseball. I can't see how we could ever consistently compete for better than 6-8th in baseball. No one is driving 2 hours to attend college baseball games. I could see that happen for equestrian.

They can get enough attendance just from locals but it requires a change in the AD mentality. They need to push affordability, including the food, and make it a great family outing. In addition to pricing, this also means either rebuilding the stadium or building a new stadium that prioritizes fan comfort and protects them from the wind.

agree Softball has drawn well in recent history, wrestling and Volleybal draw in 3500 or so each home event and gymanstics has been drawing 6000+ even before the Top 4 finish the last few years. Why do those teams draw well in sports that usually don't? They are competitive and none have a large NIL footprint. I have lived in COMO 5 years. In those 5 years I just have no interest in going to watch them getting their shite pushed in and watching in an embarrasment of a stadium. If they field a competiitve team numbers will go up, if they have better faciities it would help as well. It is though a little chicken and egg like though. Hard to recruit to a shithole ball park but also hard to invest in a ball park without some success. I think they should make the games free to attend, they are not making shite off the current attendance anyway. They can then make the difference in losing that paultry attendance by selling concessions.

I dont think it is as much of a chicken/egg situation. Look at tennessee. All it took was a coach to improve them. Their facilities and fanbase were crap yet Vitello still came in and won right away. Then came larger commitment and the success becomes sustainable and even continues to grow.
Like all college sports, you are one coaching hire away from turning the tables in a huge way.

Two Pro teams on either side of the state equates to people not giving a single frick about College Baseball.
Would I like the team to be better? Hell yes.
Do I care about the team? Nope, have never followed.
I think I've come to the conclusion I'd rather our money be spent on the Football/Basketball programs.
Edit: When Scherzer retires does he even consider becoming coach?

Beating up on a dugout full of wannabe milkmen is all this program needed. You're right dude. What were we thinking to question this program?
