Hopefully this will save the Caw some legal fees.

quote:

Florida coach Todd Golden, fresh off leading the Gators to the national championship, has agreed to a six-year, $40.5 million contract extension that keeps him in Gainesville through the 2030-31 season.

Golden becomes one of the five highest-paid coaches in college basketball, at $6.75 million annually.

Well we suck at women's basketball if that helps.

Good thing for Florida.

Likely that UNC comes open soon. How long will UCLA stick with Cronin? Self has spent 22 seasons at Kansas...retirement coming?

Getting him locked up means Florida likely does not have to worry about any of the above scenarios.

Yeah, I am not so sure about that. If he keeps doing well he is going to be getting pay raises all the time. I hope we keep him, because he seems smart, resourceful, and driven to win.

He's a Bruce Pearl guy so who knows, maybe he'll stick around for 10+ seasons.

I fully expect Golden to test the NBA someday if we keep winning at a high level. I think he is locked into UF until that day arrives.

Hopefully so. He has 2 kids that are 9 and 7, so he may be comfortable where he is until they graduate high school. He is a big Duke/Coach K fan, so maybe he stays at UF like coach K did at Duke. Although Coach K did flirt with the NBA a time or two IIRC.

Just don't give him a lifetime contract.

I just read the whole article and didn't remember this.

quote:

Golden was making $3 million under the terms of his initial deal at Florida, then signed a two-year extension last March that paid him over $4 million per year.

So the USA today needed to update the database as he had moved up to the 24th highest paid college basketball coach a year ago.

Also I don't see any buyout info anywhere, so I am assuming it is a lot just so I can hate on our athletic director.

It is and it isn't. The only people higher than him on the list all have natties, and are mostly older. He has been at UF for 4 years and is on his 3rd contract. I am pretty sure he and Stricklin shook hands and said, we will do this again next year after it was done.

Maybe I'm just too jaded about paying our coaches too much.

Yeah now if he repeats (which I know he will not) or even gets to the final 4 next season, he may get it reworked to the top number or close to it this time next year.

Golden is the feather in Stricklin's cap right now and he came along when he was desperately needed. Now if Napier can frick around and make the playoffs (no way in hell imo) We will throw Stricklin a party.

Agreement: UF will continue to look the other way regarding Golden's sexual harassment as long as the Gators keep winning a lot of basketball games.
