Can somebody explain what happened with the Houston player just watching the ball bounce away from him?

If he would have touched it, it would have been a violation because he already left his feet.

Left with two feet to shoot and dribbled. If he touched it, it would have been double dribble

Not a foul but a double dribble.

I’ve never seen someone throw the game away. He was committed to taking a 3 without looking if he was free. Saw Clayton in the air and got scared.

You cannot catch your own shot. He cannot be the first to touch the ball in that situation.

It’s a violation. You are correct. I changed it to alleviate confusion.
