Lots of deserving coaches in the SEC in WBB but glad to see Brooks get this accolade. He's done an incredible job at Kentucky so far.

I like Brooks, but this is a pretty strange decision. I would think the TCU coach would be a shoe-in.

How so?
Brooks inherited a program under Elzy that hadn't made the NCAA Tournament since 21-22 (and that's only because they won the SECT). Last season they were 12-20 and 4-12 in the SEC.

I mean, he just brought his really good Virginia Tech team with him to Kentucky and finished tied for 4th in the SEC.
TCU had not made the tournament since 2010. It was a doormat before the coach got there two seasons ago. Went 31-3, earning a two seed.

Fair, but isn't part of coaching also retaining talent even if you're changing jobs/locations? You definitely have to earn that.

Also, fair. I think the SEC is the tougher conference though (at least from a NET/RPI perspective).

He is definitely a good coach, I guess I just view it a little differently.
If Dawn Staley decided to go coach at Virginia next season, brought all her best players with her, and then finished as a 4 seed, would you consider her a COTY candidate? I wouldn't.

Well deserved. He's done a great job.

Georgia Amoore was one of his top players, but Elizabeth Kitley was the other that tore her ACL and went pro. Strack had a solid role but plays a much bigger role at Kentucky this season than she did last season at Tech. That's certainly not bringing "the whole team".
The rest of the team were either existing players or non-Tech transfers, incoming recruits.
