Rick Barnes Texas Fans

I have some questions about the end of Rick Barnes in Austin. His first ten years at Texas were extremely successful, and the last 7 were not anything crazy, if not barely average. Did Texas fans see this fall-off coming? Was it obvious that he would be fired? Was there any feeling in the back half of his career there that he would be able to turn it around? Post 2010 was there any pre season hype? All fans of his teams know that he struggles in March but his track record of winning seasons, constant competitive regular season play, and continuous appearances in AP polls is very impressive. The only way he isn't on the court in Knoxville now is if he retires. How does the Texas fan feel about ole slick Ricky from hickory?

UTrans has a history of pushing their best coaches out, thinking they can definitely do better, just to inevitably shite the bed with their next coach.

Did that answer your question, OP?

UTrans fans don't like being reminded of their history post-2009.

Tennessee would be calling for his head if he didn’t make it out of the first weekend 5 years in a row.
That said, we generally like him. He was at Texas for 17 years. He got complacent and things got stale. It happens.

1) Utrans is such a loser thing to always call Texas fans, what are you 5?
2) You are right our fanbase thinks we are greater and deserve more than we do and we pushed Mack out early, possibly Herman (although Sark has exceeded expectations but in the moment Herman deserved another year) and definitely pushed Barnes out, he is the most egregious of the 3.
Texas basketball was made by Barnes, Abe Lemmons and a little bit Tom Penders but other than that we really dont have a ton of history so pushing Rick out was silly and it bit us with Shakas terrible tenure.

To directly answer you he is the best and most decorate coach UT has ever had, period. He should have won the year LSU beat Texas and had a chance in 04. The Tourney is fickle and I would say the hardest to win but other than Kansas Texas was the second best bball team in that era in the Big 12 and If you look back was a top 5 - 10 team, just never got over the hump for a natty.
We never should have pushed him out but the admin and boosters wanted something new.

Moving Barnes out was the right choice, Shaka Smart wasn't.
Texas basketball was Abe Lemons, Penders and Barnes. Lemons recruited kids from LA and NY, and won the NIT when the NCAA was a 32 team tournament. Penders took it a step higher, and Barnes built on that. After early success, Barnes couldn't get out of the first round with a constant parade of 1 and dones and died a slow death. Since Abe, Texas has 31 NCAA Tournament appearances and 11 Sweet 16s.
Texas is not in the basketball elite, but it has been very respectable for a football school.
Early Mack is what Texas needed. Later Mack was the worst kind of cancer. He retired in place and left Texas in a horrible situation, leading to the worst period in the history of Texas Football. Herman was an egotistical clown and only looked good when compared to Charlie Strong.

I forgot to congratulate you on your 5,000th post since July!
Clearly, you’ve definitely been “working hard”
Why is everything at UTrans so fake?
Fake grass, fake cannon, fake cowboys…

So in your world, Texans and/or Texas fans are not allowed to wear what is culturally regarded as Texas apparel? Not to mention you have no idea where some people were raised..
Should Dallas Cowboys change their name?
And for my curiousity, who/where in 2025 is a "real" cowboy? Please tell me. There are some in my town, but they have trucks and cell phones so I have to rule them out, yes?

Most of us just don't care about basketball so I didn't pay attention. Truth is I haven't sat through an entire college basketball game since our final four game with TJ.
Now that baseball has started I couldn't even tell you what our record is or when we play next. I'm a terrible basketball fan. I think the apathy is why here was here longer than he should have been. Then again I didn't pay attention I just recall all the bitching by coworkers about the state of the program.

Basketball is a great sport when played by 5'8" white men who can't jump. No travelling, no double dribble, no turning the ball over, no slam dunking, all charging is charging.. just basketball as it was envisioned.

would never work today. Fans want pizazz. So what if they travel from half court to do it

Just another reason I hate this sport.

What gets me is you know the officials have been trained on bending the formal rules of the game.. in order to allow said "pizazz" to take place.
But then what's the point, when everything is so subjective. Plus I highly doubt James Naismith envisioned a day where athletes could span 12 feet of floor in two strides.
