I think all of these moves point to a league where we are really close to having a player draft.

Every team is doing this now. I really like the Andrew Luck hire at Stanford.

That's a big-time move by Brent Venables and Oklahoma. Fair to say Jim Nagy is overqualified for a college GM role. His scouting experience and contacts will help a ton, especially in portal recruiting.

Arif Hasan, but NFL

This is what I'd been hearing; OU and another SEC school had been seriously considering Nagy when I reported that the all star directors could turn those positions into GM jobs

Joe Castiglione, along with advisers Randall Stephenson and Jake Rosenberg, led the search for OU's GM. They interviewed several NFL executives for the job.

Ultimately, Nagy's 20-plus years in the NFL and connections he has through the Senior Bowl made him the obvious choice.

Lets give him this year before making such declarations. Years 1/2 rebuild. Year 3 getting there but injuries galore and a fired OC and benched 5 star qb ruined any chances.

If he doesn’t get us back this year he won’t be around but I think he’s a fine coach with 3 natties to his name. Very few coaches can claim that.

And we’ll have the infrastructure in place to deal with any contingency.

21-17 is 21-17, spin it however you want. The SEC hopes he's around a long time.

I'm thinking that GM salary just cost you a few more NIL deals.

Nice hire.

Guy has professional experience in cap management and scouting. He should know "value" in NIL. Michigan grad.

Best thing about the hire - he is NOT a former OU guy, and the admin might have grown up enough to hire on merit and not former OU boys.

What do you expect, the HC to sit down and negotiate money with every player and recruit? When would he have time to actually do his job? The moment pay-for-play and NIL became a reality, this was inevitable.

it's a shitty hire

NFL scouts are a dime a dozen, and you actually picked one who never even played college football

by never playing football in college, this poser knows zilch about what it's like to go to class and then drag yourself to football practice.

But he can hold a stopwatch!

He never even coached! He doesn't know what it's like to lead players on the field. He has no proven ability to understand what players go through, so does he "understand players"? Hell no he does not.

Lastly, judging college player's ability to move to the pros is nothing like judging high school players to move to the college game.

Venables took this punch to the gut because some politico forced it on him, to keep his job.

Zero coaches on that staff - who have been recruiting for years - are going to want to listen to this dweeb who never even played.
