SEC Composite Football Rankings

Just for fun, I entered a number of metrics (like NC's, conference championships, head to head games etc.) into an AI program. It found the data and compiled the rankings. The weight given to the founding members (sans Tulane the Wreck and Sewanee) and number of years in the SEC, was crucial. At first, given weights of 10 for the 10, 5 for Arkansas and SC, 3 for Mizzou and A&M and 1 for OU and the Horns put the Sooners and Texas at rock bottom which is maybe where they should be but to place them below some of the others didn't sit right even though they are such newcomers. We then changed it to give conference duration a little less weight and the following is the initial run. If y'all could give me some additional metrics to use (I've already put in head to head games, all-conference players, Walter Camp and other POY awards etc.), we can tweak it quite a bit. Eventually we can do this for all sports.

Great list, I'd have Kentucky over Mizzou tho.

Time in the conference is weighted very heavily as I said. The horns are lucky I didn’t go with as much weight as I’d originally planned as it had you and OU 15th and 16th. Yes, there’s some subjectivity as far as weight goes but the numbers are accurate like:

Number of conference championship games won
Number of times to win a division
Number of NCs
Number of bowl games played in
Number of bowl games won with more weight given to the Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl and Fiesta Bowl

Auburn at #2 is where this loses me. Feels like they’re clearly #6 in the big 6. Beyond “it’s what the AI said” why would Auburn be above LSU, Tennessee, Florida, or Georgia in your opinion? LSU and Florida are relative newcomers but statistically above Auburn in most categories that matter
