I know its not exactly the same as UVA came off losing to the 16 seed and parlayed that into a national title the next year but auburn had huge expectations coming off the sec tourny title and the first round loss had to sting almost as badly. Ironic too that virgina was the thorn (not peyton) that kept pearl from a national title with three free throws. This year does seem like the Virginia march for the auburn tigers. However that tournament is cruel. As we all know

Last year’s team wasn’t really that great with subpar guards and we relied heavily on CBM.
It’s different this year. This team is deeper and more experienced.

Anyways, we don’t have a floor general. I think we can make it to the E8 but probably won’t win it all. I think Florida is the most dangerous SEC team this year.

I think Pettiford needs a bigger role. Maybe move Denver (gotta keep him out there for his ability to lock down the opposing PG) over to Kelley's spot and let Pett run point. Could be a disaster, but I think he has proven he can handle the load. You lose some 3pt shooting with him out there over Kelly, but he can put them in from deep as well. Definitely is no slouch from 3. He has proven he can run the offense, he is a decent on-ball defender, and can most definitely get to the rack and/or get a bucket when the team absolutely needs one.

It makes losing Donaldson to Michigan hurt a lot more than I thought it would since our guards are more spot-up shooters.

Man I hope Pett sticks around for another year or two.

I think when it is all said and done it will more closely resemble the Bataan march.

A “death march?”

Not literally a death march. But at this point it feels like anything short of a national championship will be a long, drawn out, painful experience for Auburn. Auburn absolutely has the team to win a national championship. But there are a couple of other teams that could win too. Yet only one can.

To some degree, every season is a disappointment for all but one team.

The tournament is a crapshoot. Just is what it is.

Sure is exciting though.

If we get the #1 overall seed it’s going to be tough to keep this team out of the Final Four.

Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games in Atlanta are a major advantage with Auburn’s Atlanta alumni base and how close Auburn and Birmingham are.

State Farm Arena holds 16K and Auburn fans will try to get every ticket available.

Tickets in Atlanta are already being gobbled up. It’s 3x the price for S16 tickets as FF currently but that does have to due with venue size and location obviously.

I am booked for Lexington and think we will probably have a large contingent there also.

We're more on a 2023-2024 UConn march.

Maybe not in the purest traditional sense, but the offense hasn't shown the issues it did last year, and in fact, has thrived under Denver and Tahaad against a much tougher schedule over all.

Assists per game - #16
Turnovers per game - #5
Turnovers per possession - #4
Assist/turnover ratio - #2
Assists per possession - #20
Turnovers per offensive play - #2

The one area I think could improve is getting downhill and to the basket when absolutely needed, and I think that is being worked in more and more. Pet seems better suited for that role than Denver, but Denver can do it when needed.

Auburn was a 4 seed last year. That puts them in the 13-16 range. UVA was the overall #1 and became the first to ever lose to a 16. The two do not compare.
