"fixing"/"fixing to" is a common saying in the south and you're now in the SOUTHeastern conference. Seems like you want the wrong ones kicked out.

I'm originally from redneck southeast Missouri. We say coke, soda or "sodie" - never "pop". We say "fixin' ta", "shee'it", "dreckly" (directly, as in shortly), And that's just the white people.
Yes, we fix dinner. We "mow the lawn" - not "cut the grass".

I love how one section of rural Missouri should "southernize" a state where 10x as many people identify as midwesterners. Missourians have way way way more in common with Iowa and Minnesota than Arkansas or Mississippi or Alabama.

When they are having a cook out do they say , "we are having a barbecue?"

You’ve never been to the Bootheel or most other parts of Southern MO, I see.
And there are some parts of Northwestern AR that might as well be Midwest.

I've never had anybody take issue with my use of "fixing to" except for when I would work in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Ohio.

That's Lambert's in Sikeston, about 50 miles north of where I grew up. They kicked our butts in every sport.
