Kentucky at #8 Tennessee -9.5

9.5 seems like a big number.

At home I expect Tennessee to shoot much better. Can they turn UK’s offense into a tire fire is the question.

Butler is out, and Carr likely won't play much, so that's 2 of our starters out on the road, where we have struggled. I won't be shocked if we lose by 20.

Interesting stat.

Fouls per possession:

1. Auburn 25.2%
2. Oklahoma 24.6%
3. Mississippi 24.5%
4. Texas A&M 24.2%
5. Texas 23.9%
6. Alabama 23.6%
7. Missouri 23.5%
8. Miss State 23.4%
9. Georgia 23.2%
10. Kentucky 23.2%
11. S Carolina 23.0%
12. Vanderbilt 22.9%
13. Florida 22.6%
14. Arkansas 22.3%
15. LSU 22.3%
16. Tennessee 21.2%

All these years we have accused Tennessee of being a bunch of hackers when it was Auburn!

Please check my stats and make sure I didn't mess it up. I thought it was fairly surprising.

LINK

I would have bet good money against Tennessee being dead last.

The foul stats going from non-conference to conference play are stark.

We also lead the nation in blocks per game. I'm not sure but I'd bet that high foul % and block # are related.

I’m at work and forgot to type “the difference.”

It’s not a matter of perception, practically every team in the conference is having a LOT more fouls called than we were in noncon.

Probably so. Many stats are connected.

FWIW, I adjusted this to be a per possession stat because some teams play at a faster or slower pace, and will have more or less of every category because of it.

OK.

I'm not sure what that has to do with calculating the average since everyone is in the same boat.

I mean it is 4% from 1-16 so it is not even a huge difference. I didn't mean to put Auburn fans on the defensive. I kind of thought it was funny because everyone accuses Tennessee (even me) of being a bunch of caveman hackers and they have fouled less per possession than anyone.

You guys could flip the script and say this is proof the refs are targeting Auburn unfairly, and Tennessee's checks have cleared the bank.

It’s more of an indictment of reffing in this league across the board, not saying we’re being singled out.

I flea’ this from Reddit. Illustrates the difference. It uses free throw defense as a proxy.

29th best in the nation prior to conference play. Since conference play started 348th.

Auburn: 182 before. 297 after

Florida: 24th before. 277th after.

AM: 125 before. 274 after.

Arkansas: 15th before. 285th after

Alabama: 112 before. 209 after.

Missouri: 36th before. 299 after.

OU vs ATM. The ultimate game of shame.

OU lost to aTm 80-78 but had led by 18 points and choked it away.

aTm lost to tx and same thing happened, big lead then big choke.

We’re #2, we’re #2.

Quite honestly it’s all where your team is in standings that matters. OU is likely not making tournament so the ref calls don’t make as much difference. Higher teams are needing wins for seeding reasons, so will care more.

I know “during” the games they are almost unwatchable. All games too. Too slow and too many fouls for all teams. That needs fixed.

I think we can all agree that our schedules have gotten harder in conference play since there are really not any pushovers. It doesn't have anything to do with the statistic I am using since I am only comparing SEC teams. I am sure every team is committing more fouls in conference than they did non-conference.

Also what in the frick is free throw defense? How do you defend a free throw? They call a tech or lane violation for that.

Agreed.

Hard disagree. Those 8:30/9:30 tips are brutal on a weekday.

FT Rate (Defense)

Trackable stat on Torvik. How many FTs you give up per 100 defensive possessions.
