this here’s the thread for useless information (with an unexpected twist) about our favorite CFB program - i’ll go first

in AU’s 130+ years of gridiron history, only 2 QBs have ever surpassed 3000 yards passing in a single season: Dameyune Craig in 1997 and Jarret Stidham in 2018

in the past two years alone, three former AU QBs managed the feat:

Bo Nix at Oregon (2023)
TJ Finley at TX State (2023)
Zach Calzada at Incarnate Word (2024)

Auburn not being able to have a solid OLINE and consistent QB play every season is a mystery that I'll never understand. Or maybe I just underestimate how hard coaching is.

Great QB play is a guess because coaches try and get the highest star QB instead of one that fits their offense the best. Gus always won with mobile running QBs but he recruited a whole bunch that weren’t that. No idea why.

Tried to find the longest fake punt for a TD. Connie Frederick had 84 yard TD.

quote:

"As the game progressed, Connie told Coach Lorendo they were not respecting a fake punt," Bresler said. "As the game moved on, he would tell him each time he came off. We were ahead 42-20 and it was fourth down. Coach Lorendo said `You can do it, but don't tell Coach Jordan I said you could do it.

It probably goes hand-in-hand with only two Auburn receivers ever getting 1000 yards.

Idk if it's ironic, but it is interesting with all the Big10 bowl games AU has played in my lifetime, Auburn has never played Illinois or Iowa...ever. Same for Notre Dame.

I suspect this will change within a few years. We have traditionally been a run first/ play D team and it seems Freeze wants to pass first to open up the run.
