Here are the states where the AP trophy went to rest since 2000. These people know how to play championship level football.
Oklahoma: 1
Texas: 1
Michigan: 1
California: 2
South Carolina: 2
Ohio: 2
Georgia: 2
Louisiana: 2
Florida: 4
Alabama: 7
States with multiple winners:
Florida (FSU, Miami, Florida)
Alabama (Alabama, Auburn)
It is surprising to see a couple of states missing.

Georgia: 2
Louisiana: 3 because the AP poll hasn't been relevant since it dropped out of the BCS, which was the agreed upon format.

Did Georgia decline the AP trophy in 2021 and 2022?
I think you missed someone there bud.

You are correct, I thought I had included Georgia but had not. I fixed it. If we do BCS, it is a very similar list.

Here it is by BCS. There is one change. In 2003, USC was the AP champion, LSU was the BCS champion. That is the only year the BCS and AP named different champions. Both schools claim it.

Only LSU's claim is legitimate.
USCw didn't even play for the title.
The BCS was the format all teams agreed upon. The 50 years of USCw and other teams getting voted in by a biased media were over.

Honest question, outside of this message board is this ever discussed? Couldn’t imagine bragging about this as a casual fan.

Before the BCS, who was the most respected? The AP was.
There is only one time the AP and BCS didn’t agree. If you look back prior to 1980, it was very common to have split championships. Most people consider the AP to be the most legitimate prior to the BCS and now CFP.
The NCAA lists USC as a national champion in 2003. Is the NCAA wrong?

It would be very awkward for Arkansas fans.

Convenient you say the ap championship instead of actual bcs/playoff champs.

Luckily for you, I also included BCS in this thread.

Don’t be coy Mr. Alabama man.

I don't know, people claimed both AP and Coaches and it was just considered a split. I'm not sure one or the other was more respected. Media always just mentions AP, because the AP is the media poll.

The NCAA is not at all involved in deciding who gets the national championship in FBS football. That is nothing more than an article someone wrote. The NCAA will basically publish anything anyone wants to claim.
There is no system, checklist or standards for deciding what gets published. If such a thing exists, please point it out to me because I've never been able to find it. Alabama could randomly claim 2023 and the NCAA would publish it.
So the answer is...Yes, the NCAA is "wrong".

Back in the day, I remember the UPI poll being more respected because the voters were all active NCAA head coaches.
And the final 2003 coaches poll had LSU #1.

The NCAA also lists Alabama as a national champion in 2020.
The NCAA is stupid as hell

There isn’t someone there who decides what gets posted? It is like wikipedia where anyone can just post any content they want?

You are on the same side of this issue as TN Tygah.
That is a bad spot to find oneself.
