in his AU career thus far, Freezus has faced 11 FBS teams that either finished above .500 last year or are currently above .500 this year

heres how the last 7 AU HCs fared in their first 11 games against similar opponents:

Barfield 2-9
Dye 4-7
Bowden 6-4-1
Tubs 5-6
Chizik 6-5
Gustav 9-2
Harsin 4-7

Freezus is 0-11

ITs not that we are losing because of lack of talent. We are losing because of poor coaching

As the losses rack up and the joy of Auburn football diminishes, keep the faith he says! Good times are just a few years away!

So here is a question about this stat. Who has a worse roster starting out among these coaches? I would say that you could argue that Gus or Bowden had more talent and probably the best among them all. I would say that Freeze probably had the worst talent among all of them. Just my opinion. Would love to hear others thoughts on this.

How many more wins would we have had over the past 2 seasons if our players had simply caught punts that hit them in the hands and caught passes that hit them in the hands?

name the starting QB, RB and leading WR and tackler for the 1976 Auburn Tigers

now do the same for 1981 and 1999

also have to consider just how much stronger the entire league is. teams are way better than they were in 81,99. harder to level up in a rebuild when the level of competition is that much higher

I think it's difficult to quantify.

Did Gus have more talent? Those returning players all went winless in the SEC the prior year. Did they go winless because of coaching or because of talent?

Then you can say Gus took those players to the natty the following year, so it had to be coaching right?

It's all just a big pile of I don't know...

Most of the players on that team were put into a scheme that didn't fit their skill sets. Remember Gus has the HUNH and Gene after Gus left went to a pro system. Totally different players especially on offense. The defense scheme stayed practically the same.

Hugh is probably going to be to Auburn what Scott Frost was to Nebraska. Seemingly a perfect fit, so many reasons why it should work, evidence of winning…and then it just all flames out on loss after loss (and Frost had a penchant for blowing games right at the end, losing every one score game as well, to put a nice bow on the comparison)

Gus definitely had talent in 2013.

Tuberville and Freeze I think inherited similarly depleted teams, perhaps Tubs had a slightly better roster but Hugh has had the advantage of the transfer portal. Things were bad in 98, Bowden’s recruiting was bad and the scheme he recruited for was ill suited to Tubs scheme.

Gus got a QB, or that team would’ve been shite again. History proves that Auburn needs good QB play to compete. Yet some on here were giddy that the triple pump chump was going to be the QB again this year. Some of us knew it was going to be the disaster it has been.

Not that it would be expected or unexpected.... the known sample is way too small.
