I don’t understand it at all.
Tennessee is ranked 11th. A&M is ranked fourteenth.

A&M lost to ND in week one.
Tennessee lost to Arkansas (who A&M beat).
Tennessee beat Florida in OT at home. A&M beat Florida by 13 on the road and it would’ve been a lot worse if we didn’t put in the backups.
Tennessee’s best win is probably OU, which was by 10 points.
A&M knocked the daylights out of Missouri.

I’m struggling to see what the reasoning the voters used to put Tennessee ahead of A&M. Can someone shed some light on this?

Although this really didn't need its own thread and rankings at this point don't mean much, it pains me to say it...but I agree with you, makes no sense.

Your team was off, and there was nothing to reward them for this week. Outta sight, outta mind deal. Why do people care about these meaningless rankings so much?

reasoning the voters

The typical voter spends about 5 minutes looking at records and last game results and slaps something together.

Just beat Texas and be a good little lap dog. It's better the less you know.

Because their fun to debate and they set up "cool" matchups, but this is just bizarre.

Tennessee does not look like a good team at all.

I'll be honest, you make a good case here. Who knows, probably because Tenner started the season ranked higher, and it's harder to fall down than it is to bump up.

If A&M beats Miss State, I will ban myself for one week.

You bring up an interesting point...I can't believe OM fell 9 spots.

I think some of it is poll inertia. You started #20 and got rightfully knocked just outside of the rankings after losing to Notre Dame. They started #15 and climbed up to #4 before they lost. They dropped four spots after losing to us on the road and then again dropped three spots after a win over Florida the next week at home, which is hilarious and senseless when ignoring context.

The adjustment is coming, but they had momentum and you didn't.

Legit don’t care. Bama loses to Vandy barely beats USC the next week and is still top 10….

That's basically the same result you posted in losing to us and then barely beating Florida. And you're #11. They were #1 to your #4 when they lost, so you've only lost one position over them in the rankings. Their win over Georgia is better than your win over Oklahoma, too.

I wouldn’t have us above y’all but I also wouldn’t be shocked to see us improve into a better team as the season progresses.

CFP poll is the only poll that matters. This is all grist for the mill.

The Polls are a mystery to everyone. But I’m sure it will all worked out in six more games.
