Clarification Request - In Season Transfer

Hi folks,
Hope all are enjoying a fine day.
I just read of the Arkansas WR who entered the portal. Can someone explain the eligibility of this: IE, can he transfer and play this season ?
Does the fact that he's a grad transfer make the situation different than the UNLV quarterback ?
Please tell me a player cannot quit his team mid season and suit up for another the same season.

LSU had a te that transferred to Nebraska during fall camp outside transfer window
He basically walked on and would have been eligible but he got hurt in practice at Nebraska
The players transferring in season are doing so before the 5th game to preserve redshirt and I doubt they are looking to play this season

Does this apply only to grad transfers or is the quitter from UNLV allowed to play for someone else this season ?
If so, the fallout would be potentially very, very severe.

Thanks Nicholas....the redshirt angle makes sense, and now that I recall, the UNLV kid did say that he was redshirting.

It's just lazy writing. He's not transferring to another team during the season and playing immediately. He's just announcing he will enter the portal when it's available.
