Deboer, if successful, will never go to the NFL.

Saban just retired from Bama worth almost 100 million dollars, making him one of the top two or three wealthiest coaches globally in sports

That's what happens for coaches that win at Bama.

I watched Urban Meyer come here to Jacksonville and get defamed and smeared after establishing himself as a great college coach. The same thing happened to Saban. The same thing happened to Spurrier.

For a top tier college coach, it is absolutely illogical to give up the stability, control and money coaching at a powerhouse college for a "shot" in the NFL.

Deboer has the best job and the best resources he can find anywhere. He just needs to make it happen.

I think it just comes down to the grind of recruiting. That's what really burns guys out and it's only getting worse

What's likely to happen when a big shot college coach jumps to the NFL is they are likely to end up fired because of a dumbass owner or organization, or an incompetent quarterback.

And there goes the reputation.

There are still a lot of NFL types who claim Saban was a failure in the NFL and just couldn't cut it

This is why I think it's a really innovative move for DeBoer to create a new position of GM so he doesn't have to shoulder that load by himself. Courtney Morgan might be in more demand than DeBoer.

I hope others are right but the NFL just seems like a far smoother gig.

If his buddy Grubb tanks, then perhaps Deboer will have second thoughts about leaving. But for now, there is a minor cause for concern - especially if he wins a title in 2 or 3 years.

This is why I am all for NIL and the portal to the fullest extent.

If an athlete is only worth a scholarship (and there are plenty of normal students on scholarship), then a coach is only worth what a professor earns. None of this nine figure contract bullshite for coaches running an "amateur" sport. Coaches have been greedy as hell and squeezed every dime out of colleges that they can and have not hesitated to leave players they recruited for a better opportunity for themselves. And the fans don't give a frick about the players unless they are playing for their team AND producing at a high level. And even then they won't give a shite what the player is doing in ten years.

I like seeing the players empowered. Too much money and entertainment for the masses has been made off their backs for too many years.

You do realize how much money Saban made the university, right? He brought so much value to Alabama.

How much money do the actual players make the university?
