The reality ...

Brady Cook is a great guy. Mizzou true blood. A leader and never question his heart or effort ...
But he had offers from us and Austin Peay. That's it.
Drew Pyne had offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, ND, Auburn, Miami, Ole Miss, Baylor and ... us. He came here after stints at ND and ASU ...
If that many coaches and experts saw the talent ... how is he not winning reps. Struggling to learn the offense? Doubtful.
We have generational talent at WR/TE and a decent backfield (200 yards on ground were difference in the game yesterday).
Cook knows everything above. You could see it in his body language on the field yesterday. He's got 2 weeks to lose the scared, timid approach ... which I don't think will happen.
I originally thought we'd go 11-1 with a loss at Bama. I think we go 9-3 now with losses at Aggie, Bama and probably South Carolina (a game I'm attending) ...
We're in Tampa at the Reliaquest Bowl Vs Michigan.
We all want more but that's the reality.

It's evident across college football the best players always don't start..that's why the portal is the players safety net

Pyne lost his job at both his previous schools and agreed to come here as a backup for a reason.

Pyne was brought in just in case Cook got injured. He is trusted to run the offense and has experience. If Cook is injured mentally and hasn't performed because of that injury, then logic still follows that Pyne gets a look. There is no rule that says Drink can't go back to Cook. Saban did that with Milroe last year.
OU allowed their 2023 starter to transfer because Jackson Arnold was annointed the starter for 2024. And he was pulled last night to see if a true freshman could do the job. We cannot play with A&M, Bama, or even OU with this offense.

Pyne never was the starter at ASU ... Jaden Rashada was as a 4* who had recently transferred to UGA with the PAC 12 bust up ...
Pyne is undersized like Drew Brees, Tyler Murray, etc without the arm talent for sure ... but he did beat 5 Top 25 teams in his one season of starting at ND ...
I'm not saying Pyne is the savior but it wouldn't hurt to see what he could do for a series or two as the offense stalls out and leaves points on the field against inferior competition ...
I'm just resetting my expectations (and maybe venting) for the season based on the QB and playcalling ...

Unless Cook starts turning the ball over, Pyne isn't playing.

I'm sorry but that seems like the "old" way of thinking. Waiting for Cook to implode isn't being proactive.
And were ignoring 1 thing. Maybe being the unquestioned starter isn't best for Cook. Maybe he needs that proverbial chip on his shoulder. Even Drink said in an interview is the reason Cook wouldn't succumb to his shoulder injury was he knew someone could step in and replace him. Not everyone is a "front runner." Letting Pyne take snaps may wake Cook up. It worked with Milroe.

Drink isn’t changing QBs unless Brady Cook has a historic meltdown. 9-3 isn’t going to get us a new QB. 6-6 might not either.

I'm not talking about an all or nothing replacement. For example, I would bet Jackson Arnold l got a wake up call last night for OU. No way he's gonna let a 3 star, true freshman push him out.
Cook can play at a high level. He proved it last year. But he needs the same type of wake up. So Pyne isnt a replacement, just a subtle threat.

Noel is more than decent. Top 10 RB in the nation.
We have a top ten draft pick WR.
An NFL TE.
Another WR that’ll be a day two pick.
A very good D.
We will waste it because we’re Mizzou and we do Mizzou shite like sacrificing team success for the hometown kid. It’s why we will always be Mizzou.

At the end of the day, if you want to win and want to play with the big boys, you've got to be willing to make hard decisions.
I am sure Drink and Cook have a great bond. Hell, he is probably over at Drink's house right now watching Sunday football.
That being said, Brady has not looked "great" all season and I think everyone would agree on that. We have a guy as the backup who has looked great anytime he has played this season, and obviously has a world of experience going up against tough competition.
Maybe it's Time for Pyne.

Ok. Imissed the game but watched the highlights and Cook looked like Cook. Better than decent.
What am I missing having not seen the game?

Huh? Gabriel isn’t with OU anymore man. He’s at Oregon.
OU started the kid they pushed him out for and he sucked arse.

Now this was not evident watching the 15 minutes of game highlights.
I saw multiple missed tackles resulting in chunk plays and a quarterback repeatedly gashing them.

The whole offense looked bad yesterday. Missed some throws. Coaches made some poor calls. I mean, it's not fair for Brady to take all of the blame, but it was basically a very amplified ... 'meh' for his play yesterday. Nothing great.

Cook posted a 46 QBR ... 11 carries for 7 yards.
But some of it is the playcalling ... no misdirection, basically calling a QB keeper multiple times where Cook was murdered at 1 yard or less gained.
The first TD to Burden was a standard Kirby Moore type play ... move line with play action left, Cook shifts right and throws a 7 yard out to Burden who does the rest ...
But then there was a throw to a covered Wease on an out ... with Burden streaking the seam wide open ...
Maybe it's the line on pass blocking (they seem to do fine with run blocking) ... but Cooks body language on both the BC and Vandy games indicates that he knows he's a major element of the offense problems. That and the garbage play calls that don't get our extensive weapons open.
Also where is Brett Norfleet inside the 10? Kid is 6'7" ... throw a damn jump ball to him against the 6'0" CB/safety covering him ... kid is a beast blocking ... find him the ball too.

They held Vandy to 8 yards in the second quarter. A competitive offense opens up a 2-3 TD lead with that and forces Vandy to pass the rest of the game.

Sorry meant Jackson Arnold

Cook not good.
Coaching and play calling not good.
Oline not good at protection.
Penalties though better have killed drives.
Cook needs to be better but he’s hardly the only issue we have throwing the ball

Pyne should get a series or two to “stay sharp.”
That’s how I’d be framing it. Let the chips fall where they may.
