That's what Monsanto said. This is an advertisement from 1967 when the artificial grass movement was gaining tremendous momentum and AstroTurf was just starting to be installed everywhere.

That's nice, TrueLefty. You didn't happen to have artificial turf installed in your yard did you?

Nope! I don't like the company. It's a bad company. Bayer bought out Monsanto.

Oh, I see. I suppose your father just didn't give a damn about them being a bad company.

It may have been safer, all around, at the time. Actual field turf and golf course level grass did not exist at the majority of football venues.

Artificial playing surfaces should be banned in the SEC.

...and light up a nice Marlboro or Winston cigarette after the game. Used to love those Riddell cleats though.

It’s really mind blowing to me that it was only replaced in the last 20 years. The Colts and Rams were still playing on that shite in the 2004-2005 season lol.

Allegedly.

And I think you mean that they made it, not that they used it.

I've worked for some pretty bad companies. They pay better.

I always respected auburn, LSU, UGA and Kentucky for not ever installing this shite. I remember several seasons where teams would play maybe two games on real grass. I don’t think it was as dangerous as the field turf stuff they have now but why it was used to begin with baffles me.

As far as Monsanto, thank u 60 minutes for exposing this place back in the 90s by going to the Anniston Alabama plant that was killing everybody around there. My uncle worked there, died. The rate of cancer in towns around Monsanto was 3 times higher than the rest of the state. They were secretly dumping into cold water creek where we swam as kids and we all got cancer.

Tennessee has a problem playing on real turf. When UGA put a quick halt to their 4 days of glory they blamed the rain, the crowd noise and the GRASS.

A hundred billion million trillion people have died from sugar and its effects; I don't see people crying about sugar companies.

I actually played on astroturf once. It wasn't horrible. I did feel like my cleats dug into the turf a bit harder...grabbed it, if you will. It was an outdoor stadium and it had snowed all day. What seemed weird to me was that as the snow melted, the water seemed to seep into our cleats easily. My feet were frozen. I don't know if it was the astroturf or just cheap cleats.
