Okay so they have them 12th in the SEC, probably unranked in the first poll. But I've been keeping up with recruiting and they have a solid team, solid QB, why are people so down on UF? I think they have the talent to make noise this year.

Have you seen their schedule? 12th is about right. Their schedule is one of the toughest in modern college football history.

UF has some talent but ZERO coaching

We have some talent but we only have 2 players that would make coordinators adjust anything at all. Wilson at WR and Moore when healthy at DB. We have no other starters that are very top end SEC talent imo.

This is what everyone talks about. This is the SEC. In any given year, the 12th ranked team can come up and bite you in the arse if you aren't prepared. Florida might be a pretty good team this year. But that schedule is absolutely brutal.

Sunbelt Billy can't coach. Florida has no excuse not to be a powerhouse right now.

I actually upvoted a GiveHimSix comment. I usually disagree with you but you’re spot on here.

Pretty clear why everyone knows we suck right now.

The stretch of UGA, Texas, LSU, Ole Miss, and FSU in the last 5 games is insane. People give them shite about not leaving Florida in non conference, but how can you fault them for playing Miami, UCF, and FSU in the same season?

Look at the record from last year. 5-7.

They lost by double digits to Utah, Kentucky, Georgia, LSU, FSU. The only decent teak they beat was Tennessee. They lost a close one to Missouri and another to Arkansas.

It's hard to imagine much improvement from year to year.

If they make noise, it will be a huge turnaround against that schedule.

This is by far the best roster Billy has had so far at UF. Both in terms of top end talent and depth.

According to On3, we have the 5th best blue chip ratio behind UGA, Texas, Bama and A&M. The schedule is obviously a huge issue because we play 3 out of the 4 teams above us, and a bunch of other teams that are right there with us. The roster might be the best it’s been under Billy, but that might not (or probably will not) be enough.

Which brings up the other big question mark: coaching. The last couple of years we had the talent to win 7/8/9 games, but gave away a few each season. And those losses were pretty much on our coaching, whether it be play calling, strategy, or simple stuff like getting the right players on the field on special teams.

This is it exactly, but also why Gata could be dangerous this year. How many times have we seen a program considered dead man walking before the season...and then they make some noise? A good example from the Rig12 is West Virginia. Literally nobody gave them a chance to even have a winning record in 2023 and many were saying Neil Brown was lucky he still has a job. Of course they didn't win the conference, but they had a winning record, went to a bowl and Neil Brown lives to fight another day. Flardah has a lot more talent than WV, but their schedule is only considered insurmountable because of their record the past 3 seasons. Would the schedule be considered such a bfd if Urbs was still running things and Teebus was still behind center? Just something to consider.

Just to be clear, I still expect the schedule to chew them up and Sunbelt Billy ends up at the unemployment office, but I also wouldn't be too shocked if they exceed expectations. Hell, if rock bottom is the expectation how could they not exceed it? They will sneak up on someone and win a game nobody expects...better not be against my Horns.
