Trying to remember the last time Ole Miss had this kind of preseason pressure on them.
Even the year they melted down against Arkansas with a shot at Atlanta on the line I don’t think they were preseason #5.

They opened a season in the top 10 agains wake forest in Javon Snead era I believe. Got beat by two scores at wake to open the season and didn’t make a bowl

Alabama and Ole Miss both had some razor thin margins against mediocre teams last year, but also had some really good wins.
It'll be interesting to see how both teams pan out this year.

I'm not buying the Ole Miss & Mizzou hype.
Every year the media pushes a few Cinderella stories, but when the dust settles it's always a Blue Blood hoisting the National Champion Trophy.
Especially in this playoff era.
No more silly mythical champions like BYU back in day.

Honestly I don’t know why Washington doesn’t claim 84. Don James got robbed of two titles(shouldn’t of split 91)

In 2009 Ole Miss opened the season #8. Went 9-4 and finished #20. Didn’t play Wake Forest but lost to them 30-28 the year before.
Started #11 in 2016 but went 5-7. Beat Kirby’s first Georgia team like a drum and lost 48-43 to Bama. Lost QB Chad Kelly midway through the season and the wheels fell off.

I think one of them breaks through but not both. This will be a weird season of best loss comparison to get into CFP. When you break it down assuming that both teams from each conference championship games are in, really it's only 3 bids available.

We play 3 of the top 6 on the road. Fun times

I'm referring to either one of them winning it all.
Of course the expanded playoff field makes it easier for them to get it, but tougher for them to win it all.
Can't see an Ole Miss or Mizzou winning 3 straight against the likes of UGA, Ohio State, Bama, Oregon etc.
Can they pull off 1 win ?sure.
But no way they take down 3 top ranked Blue Bloods in a row.
Kind of like the NCAA tourney where a small school will win a few, but they never win it all.

Talent matters. Polls come and go and people pontificate about every insecurity they grew up cultivating. The truth will always be, that talent matters.
When ALABAMA steps on the field this season they will have more talent than any other SEC team, and for most teams, it's not close. Talent matters.

The fact that Washington Huskies aren't even listed speaks volumes.

That’s absurd. I bet that’s a rarity.
