Best beach in the SEC foot print. The Destin/Fort Walton/30A area is #1.

The clarity of the water is Caribbean like with perfect sugar white sand. Best charter fishing fleet on the entire gulf coast, great restaurants, elite shopping, plenty to do, family friendly, and crab island.

Other places that are nice
1. Tampa area
2. Pensacola
3. Panama City
4. Key West
5. Fort Meyers area.

Overrated
1. Anything on the Atlantic side nasty water and brown sand.
2. Gulf Shores WATER IS DIRTY, outside of Doc's which is great average restaurants, no night life, just as high as Destin for lodging , police are out of control and are dicks, has a redneck cheap feel to it, very spread out example from orange beach to the Foley
water park can take an hour with traffic, tons of fat women on the beach compared to Destin, many homeless people running all over, many people you see come across as the first time they have been out of their backwoods home town in their life, and terrible fishing options example pier is shut down.
3. Mississippi and Louisiana beaches suck.
4. Texas beaches all smell like chemicals.

Add Sanibel Island and Cape San Blas to that list.

The beaches west of Florida suck. Even Gulf Shores

I prefer Tampa/Clearwater to 30a

That’s a long coast to hate in its entirety…

Down votes are Gulf Shores people who have never been anywhere else and have no clue better places exist.

4. Key West
Closer to the AUC foot print (Asociación de Universidades Cubanas) than SEC foot print.

Myrtle Beach to Miami I have been up and down the Atlantic side just does not compared to the Destin area. I have ran into many first timers in Destin and have always gone to Myrtle Beach for vacation and said they would never go back to Myrtle Beach because it was a dump compared to Destin. Just shocked how much prettier the Destin beaches were.

Destin has some of the best sand in the world.

They don't call it The Dirty Myrtle for no reason.

Within the SEC footprint, my favorite beach was in Florida, specifically, Siesta Key.....quartz sand and the water is very clear. Beautiful place.

Here in California, my favorite is Laguna Beach....gorgeous coastline, flowers blooming year-round on the surrounding cliffs, palm trees, and coves all around. The water's perfect, too -- in the 70's, not bathtub hot like around FLA & the Gulf states.

SIESTA KEY, Florida

LAGUNA BEACH, California

Add Sanabell Island and Cape San Blas to that list.

We usually go to 30A/Destin area every year, but my daughter wanted to try Cape San Blas this year. We didn't book it, but went back to our normal spot. Are the beaches and water comparable to 30A?

Yes it is.

The panhandle is undeniably better than 99% of the beaches in the USA if you don’t count Hawaii.

I don’t understand why people fight it.

Georgia beaches are awful. Miami beaches suck. Long Island/Jersey beaches? Forget it.

California beaches are incredibly nice but you really can’t get into the water. They have better hiking and cliffs but the sand sucks and water way rougher.

Not anything. Many nice spots on the Atlantic. But I do prefer the gulf side.

Never found a beach up there that can compete with siesta key
