He's really sucked for Michigan Panthers today.

He was a good not great QB. He came from a mid/low-tier college as a transfer and performed better than I think anyone would have reasonbly thought

I think that was Mettenberger, who was a bammer the last few years.

yeah, he's basically the definition of "ok college QB". I was surprised he was drafted at all (last rd if I recall), and shocked he has stuck around the NFL as long as he has, even as a practice squad guy. He must have some good football IQ, because he doesn't bring anything physically to the game. I remember watching him throw some bombs, and he'd rear back and throw it as hard as he could.... for about 55 yds.

Etling and Mac Jones had comparable careers with the Patriots IIRC.

6'3 220 with an average arm and decent legs. He was exactly what LSU wanted at the time, which is a game manager.

You’re correct. They all look alike.

Mettenberger was an infinitely better talent than Etling. In todays game, he would start and be a Heisman candidate for any top team. His style of play and big arm was tailor made for this era.

After four years of Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris, Danny Etling felt like Patrick Mahomes in purple and gold.

In reality, he was a middle of the pack, SEC quarterback who played hard and didn’t completely crumble in games. Not to mention he took over right as LSU was breaking the choke, hold of Les Miles offenses.

This. IIRC he missed a ton of throws against Bama in 2017 that would have changed the game. A game that had a 24-10 final. Burrow or Daniels wins that game
