I guess it is in 2024, but those numbers are about on par with AJ McCarron and Jake Coker which were "good" to me. And Milroe didn't have nearly as much help in the run game, pass protection, or WR as those guys.

AJ McCarron had Eddie Lacy, TJ Yeldon, Kenyan Drake and Derrick Henry as RB's to hand the ball off to.

Jake Coker had peak Derrick Henry (2200 yards rushing) and Drake to hand the ball off to.

Milroe had Jase McClellan, Roydell Williams and... well himself... to hand the ball off to.

The reality is the quality of RB for Coker and McCarron warranted passing less. The guys at Bama last year were pretty good, but there's no Derrick Henry or Eddie Lacy there. I'm not sure there's even a TJ Yeldon caliber back there.

I think there's a difference between choosing to pass less because your team has beastly RB's, and having to pass less because your passing game isn't where you'd like it.

Now that being said, the WR talent IS a big part of it. Last year's WR group at Bama was the weakest they've had in at least a decade, maybe longer. They were forced to take a #2 WR and make him a #1 not because he was good enough, but because they had no other choice. It wasn't good the year before with Bryce Young either, but he covered it up because he was an elite QB.

The problem is it doesn't look much better this year. Burton and Bond are gone (their two leading WR's last season) as well as their #3 pass catcher in Niblack the TE.

Their top 2 returning producers at WR are Prentice (314 yards) and Law (135 yards). They brought in a transfer from Washington who had 419 yards last year. The rest of the newcomers are true freshmen and redshirt freshmen.

It doesn't look promising that he'll have more WR help this season than last.

Correct-that is my point. Having a dominant rushing attack makes passing the ball much easier.

meh, Bernard is probably at least as good as Burton and Bond. I think that Law is really going to blossom in this offense, as well as the other young WRs (including a stud # 1 rated WR.) WR is the least of my worries with DeBoer at the helm.

There's not a lot of returning production, but the overall talent is better than it's been the past couple seasons. We'll have to see who steps up.
