Can somebody educate me as to the difference between the strike zone for college and MLB. Also, why there is a difference. between the two.

A zone exists in mlb not so much in college 80% of the time

They call it better because they ARE better!

In college, currently they would rather miss by calling a strike a ball than the other way around.

Since it’s a professional league I’m sure the zone is smaller. College is bigger zone bc they are amateurs. Like in college football wr just have to get 1 foot inbounds and nfl 2 feet.

In college, it depends on the mood of the umpire that day.

If college baseball had the MLB strike zone, 4-hour baseball games would be rampant
Hell, you had 10 combined walks just yesterday’s game. Imagine if they shrunk the zone.

Based on what I see, pitchers get significantly more calls above the strike zone and away from the batter in college. Below the zone and inside seems similar.

Are you asking why college umps aren’t as good as professional umps?
Posted on 5/12/24 at 12:04 pm to Tiger 1964
because every single MLB game has that square on the screen to show the world exactly where the ball crossed the plate.
basically forces umps to at least be close.

What I hate is when an ump call where the catcher catches the ball vs. where it crosses the plate. Some pitchers have incredible movement and if you have a lazy catcher they don't stick the pitch so strikes can be called balls.

I wish with the huge offset of the camera angle that they would put a strike zone box up so that fans can get an idea of how far off the plate the umpires call balls and strikes
