If Calipari can bring a natty to Arkansas could this somehow have a positive impact on other sports programs, specifically football?

Basketball championships have done nothing for Kentucky football.
Don't count on it.
Don't count on it.

Why would it?
Football program isn't getting a hall of fame coach.
Football program needs 85 players.
Arkansas doesn't produce these in the quality needed for success.
Basketball program needs 11-13 players.
Much easier to pay for the top guys available and have success.

Most of Kentucky's title occured pre 1950.
Since 1950, uconn has more titles.

No.
Football is too dysfunctional.

The state of Arkansas could be the size of Texas and they would Aggie it up.
Some programs just have it and and know what it takes to win. They have goals of what they want to achieve and are very aggressive in doing so.
You can't be this bad for so long in football and not have any internal issues within the program.

A rising tide lifts all boats or trickle down has been shown to... well basically be as so much fart gas. We have 40 plus years of economics to prove that.
Not saying you are evil for wanting lower taxes on the wealthy, its just been proven that the rising tide only lifts certain boats.
I suspect basketball will be the same thing. Other than a blah year last year we've had a good basketball team that has drawn a lot of national attention and... we've sucked in football. Or been adequate.
We punch well above our weight in the smaller sports but football isn't a smaller sport.
Lets be honest... Petrino had some great years. After being handed the single greatest group of WRs in Arkansas history and a couple of NFL caliber QBs. We don't produce enough in state talent to rely on so we've got to fly the pirate flag and grab recruits from around the country. In modern football that is going to be really expensive.

quote:sadly, I’m afraid you’re right. People love to say Arkansas is just too small and doesn’t produce enough talent as a reason we don’t have success, but that still doesn’t explain why we lose to teams like byu and Liberty and why those same teams as well as teams like Iowa or Oklahoma state have better seasons than we do.

If Petrino wasn't fired then the 2014 and 2015 teams wouldn't have been flushed down the toilet the way Bert did with them.

There is no guarantee the teams those years would have done any better with the way recruiting was going the years prior. Fielding a team with an average recruiting team rank in the 40+ category doesn't yield successful seasons in the SEC.
Bert underachieved based on an talent level he brought in that would not have been at the same level had he not been there.

The state of Arkansas has always struggled to put out enough high school talent and that shouldn't be breaking news.
Back then it wasn't as bad and Arkansas didn't have the long list of bad coaches that they do now. It also doesn't help that these coaches continue to overlook good not necessarily highly rated prospects but good role players that would do those jobs well.
For example remember Zach Stadther? He wasn't highly recruited out of high school and didn't have NFL size but regardless Petrino thought he was a good enough player and he was right.
These coaches don't take these chances anymore and let the them go to not high level power 5 schools but middle to lower level power 5 schools. If they are good enough to go to these schools then they are good enough to go to Arkansas.

Petrino left him enough talent to win but Bert did the inexcusable and gave Arkansas the very first 0-8 SEC season.
Brandon Allen.
Austin Allen
Jeremy Sprinkle
Javontee Herndon
Travis Swanson
Jonathan Williams
Mitch Smothers
Trey Flowers
Tevin Mitchell
Robert Thomas
Keon Hatcher
Zach Hocker
Julian Horton
Darius Philon
Deatrch Wise
Chris Smith
Mitchell Loewen
Kiero Small
Add in his players mixed in and all he had to show for it was an 8-5 season.

No Arkansas is a Sunbelt type program playing in an SEC that has no business playing in such a high level conference.

The Brandon Allen years had some very good talent on it and if Petrino wouldn’t have been canned with would have been at least 3 more 10-win seasons.

They only way we win big is to hire a GM and scouts just like the NFL. We need to start paying coaches substantially less. It's no longer about having the best coaches. It's about maximizing talent and paying the elite ones the most.
It's only a matter of time before people figure out the money should be going to the players and not the coaches.

Bert lost 14 games by seven points or less. That is an average of 2.8 potential wins.
Petrino lost seven games by seven points or less. Petrino was an elite game day coach while Bert was terrible regarding his coaching decisions during games. Put Bert on those 2010 and 2011 teams and see what he would do with them.
2010
Lose to Georgia
Lose to A&M
Loss to State
Lose to LSU
Lose to Alabama
Lose to Auburn
6-6
2011
Losse to Ole Miss
Lose to Vandy
Lose to A&M
Lose to LSU
Lose to Alabama
7-5

Arkansas should have hired Chris Klieman when they had the chance. But he wasn't a sexy enough hire so they wanted stupidity in Morris.

We had a few coaches that might have been on the board during that search. But, it should be said for the record, while we made the absolute worst hire of that coaching change cycle, 2018 was a turd when it came to hiring new coaches. The only guy hired in 2018 still on the job is the goober at Rice who is 24 games under .500.
A lot of schools, some of them very big names indeed, made absolutely craptacular hires. Of course, with our luck, we made the worst.
