All trolling aside, I think what he's trying to say is he wants to build up the longterm culture, multiyear players who want to be at LSU, and not rely on hitting the "free agent" portal market every season.
Look at what Kirby's doing at UGA, that team is built from within.
That said, we have some holes to fill, and if you want to compete for a title, you need to fill those holes somehow.
MAYBE what his plan is, is to commit to the high schoolers and get them to commit to LSU, to build the program; instead of getting a transfer or 2 every year to start. Maybe he's trying to turn that corner now, before it becomes precedent here.

Based on what we've witnessed so far, these "highest bidder" type guys aren't even usually elite contributors so why risk destroying team chemistry for that?
You end up with an A&M situation.
Look at the championship teams, 2023 Michigan was #14 in team talent, 2023 Washington was #26, neither had any big name portal transfers.
