FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A former Major League Baseball player is trading in his baseball bat for shoulder pads and joining the Arkansas football program.
According to an Arkansas spokesperson, Monte Harrison committed to the Razorbacks Monday and will join the football team as a walk-on. Harrison logged 68 at-bats across three MLB seasons, last appearing with the Los Angeles Angels in 2022.
Harrison, 28, was a four-star wide receiver coming out of Missouri's Lee Summit High School in 2014. As a senior, Harrison racked up 1,007 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 60 catches. He committed to Nebraska but never made it to campus, instead signing with the Milwaukee Brewers after getting selected in the second round of the MLB Draft.
Harrison made his MLB debut on Aug. 3, 2020 with the Miami Marlins. He finished his career with a .176 batting average and two home runs.
According to 247sports, Harrison was recruited by Arkansas but never received a scholarship offer to play football.

That was basically what Hayden Hurst was when he came to Carolina

I wonder how many others have done this? Brandon Weeden and Chris Weinke come to mind. Wasn't the Rams backup QB like 25 years old when he entered the draft?

He's also going to help DVH with his camera placement. He's got pro tips. For real.

He’s paying his own way. MLB career didn’t pan out so time to get a diploma. Baseball players are some of the best athletes on the planet so who knows. Could end up being productive.

Kelley Washington was only 22 but he was a damn toxin for Fulmer. In the NIL era it may not matter as much but it is still fresh.

We'll try anything to sell tickets and make a headline at this point.

Idc how many stars he had coming out of high school, that was a decade ago and he will be rusty af. The skills needed for baseball and football are quite different. Maybe he does get back in the groove, but I doubt it will be for the '24 season.
