what a joke we have become

Yeah that's just laughably horrendous. Kentucky basketball is no longer a serious threat.

Mark Poop and Mark Poops leading their football and basketball programs

If they actually hire Pope, I don’t know how Barnhart keeps his job as AD. Pope is 0-2 in the NCAA tournament for his career.

Barnhart might get fired for this one.
I hate it for Pope because he’s a beloved former player and won an NC. But this is going to get really ugly in a hurry.

Damn RR is trash reading that what coach would want to work in an environment like that with no support from the fanbase

I wasn't sure who this Pope guy was, so I pulled him up on Wiki...
He's already the head coach of KY!

What a rough month for Kentucky fans. The first round upset, a surprising resolution as Cal leaves on his own saving Kentucky MILLIONS.
Then this happens. What a fricking brutal Catfishing.

Pope has literally never won a single NCAA tourney game in his entire coaching career. To say his resume is underwhelming would be putting it lightly.
If I were Craft, I would absolutely not pay him more than $2-3 million a year for 3 years. If he doesn’t get results during the contract length, show him the door. That being said, Barnhart is a an absolute fricking retard and is putting his AD position on the line by doing this.

Y'know, I don't think this ends well for either team. Gonna be an interesting couple of years.

Exactly why a home run hire wasn’t made. I love Kentucky basketball. But the fan base here sucks. Or maybe it’s just all these lowlifes on this forum
quote:
We are an awful fanbase. I’ve thought this for a while.
Sickening really. Most of which live paycheck to paycheck and don’t even know what they are watching and still spit out advice on the radio.

I was blasted constantly for saying that I wasn't happy, but who would we have instead of Cal....
I was told there were tons of top tier coaches interested in coaching our program.....
I was sad the day Cal left and am even more sad today.

You guys need to stay off RR and facebook groups.
Not a glamour hire at all, but a solid coach. I assume they talked to Billy D and he didn't want to say he would come, so they decided to move on.
Pope fits the tier 2 list of coaches, and clearly UK didn't want to consider other named candidates like Oats. I think that is fine.
Pope isn't flashy, but he is solid coach and his teams show improvement from year to year.
It will be a change for Kentucky fans. Probably not chasing 5* one and dones anymore and instead focusing on good players who will stay 3-4 years. That is the recipe that is winning in March now, so I'm good with it.
Time will tell, but if we had to drop down to a tier 2 coach, he's a good choice. What happens to the remainder of this year's team? No idea. There are currently only 3 players not in the portal or NBA draft.
I would guess this will keep Sheppard here, and with Perry, we just need about 6 more players.
Let's see what he can do.
