No reason those wouldn't be 3 of the top candidates. I do think Drew is the obvious choice.

Hurley - no way he’s leaving UCONN for another college job.
Donovan - He’s an NBA coach now. Unlikely he has desire to come back to college.
Drew - Really good coach, would definitely at least give hard consideration to any offer. BUT, he’s been at Baylor a long time and built it into the national championship winning program it is. To leave what you built, where you’ve already shown you can win championships, to take a high pressure job where winning a championship is just “doing your job” may be something he doesn’t have an appetite for.

Yep. Is an active college coach and may not cost another lifetime tier contract to get.
Makes sense

He had some interesting comments last night but the issue with Donovan is going to be the wait. I imagine Barnhart wants to get someone locked down and may not want to wait potentially a week to a month for his season to end.
I agree Hurley probably says no, but if the opportunity is there you offer. Can’t blame Barnhart for swinging for the fences because that’s what he should be doing.
Drew has apparently expressed through back channels that he’s highly interested. So we’ll see. He’s close with Barnhart.

That's fair. I'm sure money for NIL and facilities outside of salary will get discussed

My only concern with Donovan is how long he's been out
He'd probably be fine but recruiting has definitely changed

I don’t guess I understand the big draw with Drew.
Ironically, I think he’d be a great hire for someone like Arkansas. But a Blue Blood?
Idk man. Yeah, he did a great job of turning Baylor into a winning program, and he’s got that championship. But he’s also only made it past the Round of 32 twice in the last decade.
He’ll certainly have more resources at Kentucky, though. So, we’ll see. I guess I’m just a little surprised at the support he’s getting.

He’s the brain behind operations at UConn

That makes sense. He made a comment last night about people saying he didn’t like recruiting. He apparently did enjoy aspects of it but said it can take you down a notch when there’s “no consolation prize” if you miss on a guy.
I feel like he’d at least be capable of building a staff that could handle a lot of the NIL/recruiting.
It just feels like we’re not going to wait on him.

If you had what we'd had the last few years, you'd be good with most anyone if it meant a new coach. I'm interested to see how much better the team looks.
And Drew is a solid pick and is qualified for the job.

I think the most interesting question is if it’s not one of the 3 listed in OP, who’s the next top target?

He has as good of a resume as most anyone we’ve brought in (we’ve never had someone who won an NC at a previous spot).
It’s worth noting that he took over Baylor, there was serious discussion over shuddering the program post-Bliss and the Dennehy murder. And Baylor has never been better under anyone else.

Pitino. Natties, active coach, former UK experience.
Every box is checked

Calipari has one of those. Drew’s is more recent I suppose.
Outside of the one championship year, Drew’s post season resume isn’t very impressive. Given that he’s at Baylor, perhaps it’s better than it looks overall.

The job he’s done at Baylor has been remarkable - when given the context of what they are historically and what they could have been without him. That’s very true.

If he wants to leave Baylor, why not wait for IU to open ?

Drew’s is 9 years more recent. That’s a lifetime. And Baylor had been to 1 tournament ever when he took over. I’m not overly excited about Drew, but he’d unquestionably be the best on paper candidate we’ve ever hired.
