Eddie Sutton was the other coach to leave willingly and he left for Kentucky.

Supposedly his contract is 4.6 mil a year. If that's true he also took a pay cut when you factor in the difference in taxes.

is it really a step down though? I think the realization that it's not is crushing you

Their basketball program is not even close to AR's level. He left bc he's a West Coast guy and his mom lives there and isn't getting any younger. No biggie. I believe Yurachek will find a great replacement.

Still kind of think this was to some degree one of those "one step ahead of the jailer" type moves as Jimmy Buffet would have said.

Dude saw heat coming his way... figured LA would be a nice cushy landing spot.

Their basketball program is basically dead. The fan support and facilities are not even close to comparable. Much higher cost of living and I'm sorry but I don't think much of the whole state of California. I know Muss loves it there though so can't knock him for making the move.

Ehhh, it was his first bad year. He was always looking to get back to the West Coast. The season was very strange and makes me wonder if Muss and the players knew long before everyone else.

Do you realize he finished 10th or worse in 3 of his 5 years at Arkansas.

He went to 3 Sweet Sixteens and 2 Elite 8s in 5 years. I'd say that's pretty dang good for a program that was dead when he got there.

With USC moving to Big 10, basketball may be more interesting to USC.

His problems started with his highly recruited freshmen class that underperformed expectations.

They did make the Sweet 16 but it was an underwhelming season considering the NBA talent.

Then he whiffed on the portal for some reason and it seemed like he didn't care as he lost the team this year.

Rumors have been floating around that he was looking at other jobs after his first elite 8 season and it has been going around that his relationships with people that have money went sour.

Johnny Jones finished 8, 6, 3, 3, 13 and got fired.

Trent Johnson won the SEC, then finished 12, 12, 8 and got fired.

Muss finished 11, 2, 4, 10, 12 and was on his way to a statue.

That’s one reason a lot of us aren’t too upset to see him go. No reason we shouldn’t be winning more SEC games to help our tournament seeding.

It’s a huge step down in terms of basketball prestige. No doubt about it.
