By the time the SEC sorts out the 9 game schedule and permanent rivals, we will be adding ACC teams and starting all over again.

Let’s just balance it out and make it four. I’d like AM AR UK and OU every year in no particular order.

With no divisions, the fair thing is 10 games. Give LSU Bama, UF, Auburn, and OU.
Don't want to lose the first 3, want the same team for Rivalry week. Would be fine with the Black Friday Arkansas games.

I’m surprised to admit that your proposal is actually a pretty sound one if we go to 9 games.

It may looks like a troll job (and may be…lol), but, at quick glance, it seems to preserve all of the current rivalries while also allowing for upcoming added rivalries. They really aren’t divisions (that’s where the troll part comes in), but a way to show/coordinate all of the rivalries people want to keep with the rest of the schedule.

The whole upper half/lower half idea needs to be junked. What are we going to do, change up the "permanent" matchups every four years based on changes at the margins? It's stupid to lock yourself in to such a scheme.

What we should do is just pick the 3 based on history and geography with the intention that they be truly permanent. Trying to achieve competitive balance is a waste of time. If you end up with three relatively strong permanent opponents, that means that your rotating opponents, as a group, will be weaker. If we play the entire league home and away over a four year period, the disadvantage (if it exists at all) of having a tougher than average set of permanent opponents will be a washout.

For example, Bama's 3 should be Auburn, UT, and State; 2 huge rivalries and the closest schools in proximity in the league. Auburn's 3 should be Bama, UGA, and Florida. I know, that's 3 tough opponents for Auburn, but their rotating pool would be weaker as a result. Don't worry about Bama getting State for their 3; they will have Florida and UGA on their rotation and you will have State. It will even out.
