Elko wasn’t just some normal dude, dipshit. He did something special that most people do and are lauded for but never actually achieve. He came back and fricking won it all - after playing a season injured that he could have sat out, rehabbed, and gotten drafted. Give credit where it’s due. I’d almost expect LSU fans to be better in regard to baseball, but you’re too busy licking aTms dick and wishing Schlossnoggle will come snoggle your team.
ETA, my phone auto-corrects from “Elko” to “Elmo”

He put up worse numbers than 2023 Tommy White.

Tommy White isn't even in the discussion to get a statue at LSU.

That's probably why LSU fans are somewhat confused about this.

Why do we see highlight reels of Billy Cannon’s punt return against OM? He won a title in 1958 which is irrelevant as are OM’s titles/dynasty from the same era.. those don’t count yet year to year we see Billy Cannon’s shitty, grainy, wouldnt make the top 10 today footage yet LSU has sort of put him on a pedestal and nobody gives a shite? So yeah maybe thats why we put a statue up because the guy similarly helped his team to a title in an era that is actually modern and relevant. Carry on.

Tommy White was a good player on a team of future MLB superstars. If you think he’s a good comparison, you’re retarded.

Hence the confusion.

He played injured all season, put up better numbers, and LSU isn't putting a statue for him.

Schools tend to make a big deal about their Heisman winners.

Well put one in Oxford for him. We like breaking the statue rules.

Ole Miss can do whatever it wants, not sure why Rebels are so defensive in this thread.

Teach your football team to be more defensive.

Body of work vs. body of work as college players and importance to their team. If Benintendi won the Golden Spikes, Elko was just as, if not more deserving. Honestly can’t remember, did White win the GS in 2023?

I actually agree that the new statue is ridiculous. I loved Elko and respect the hell out of everything he did, but it’s quite embarrassing. Maybe he makes it big in the next couple of years and it could be warranted, but good lord it makes Ole Miss baseball look very small time/never been there before. As bad as Ole Miss has been in baseball last year and this year looks even worse, the only person that deserved a statue is Bianco and not until after he retires. I think he should step down after the season personally because I don’t want to see a national champion forced out, but I will also acknowledge that he completely changed Ole Miss baseball.

This isn't something random and I don't necessarily think it's a statue for Tim Elko. I think it's a statue to pay tribute to the entire journey that year and no one better to display than the guy that kept it all together.

Then make it a team statue and include Kevin Graham and Justin Bench, the other leaders. It’s not like it couldn’t be done

frick Bianco. This year and last year shows he never deserved a statue for the work the kids put together in ‘22.

Another wrinkle here: it’s actually inside the ballpark. It’s not out on campus or even outside the stadium.

How many other teams have players outside of their stadiums after a CWS? Sure they may have some, but they were also ones that made it big in the league and also years after they were done with a pro career

Yeah he’s been shite since the championship and was shite during a lot of that championship season. However, Ole Miss doesn’t get to that if it was not for him and winning. No one gave a shite about baseball and the athletic department wasn’t going to throw as much as they have into the stadium and some of the nicest player facilities in the country until he changed the entire culture around Ole Miss baseball. Think about the names we are mentioning now to replace him. We wouldn’t even be a blip on a major coach’s radar had Bianco not shown that we can win and bring in crowds, etc

And we’re in the midst of having our worst year since 1990. Along with being bottom 2 in the SEC last year. And almost not making the tournament for our Natty run.
