Was Bear a Christian? Anyone know?

The Prayer Yes. He kept this prayer in his wallet.
“This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is very important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving something in its place I have traded for it. I want it to be gain, not loss—good, not evil. Success, not failure in order that I shall not forget the price I paid for it.”

Yes.. I’ve heard Steadman Shelly talk about Coach’s faith.
If you can find the ABC special about Coach from 1967.. there’s a scene of him praying with the team after a game.
Coach Bryant was far from a perfect man.. but his faith was strong

Tide Hoops History@BamaHistory
On this date 41 years ago in 1983, @AlabamaMBB traveled to Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles and upset No. 1-ranked UCLA 70-67 to provide some comfort to the @AlabamaFTBL fan base still reeling from the sudden death of legendary football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant two days earlier.
Bryant’s funeral services had concluded earlier in the day before Alabama head coach Wimp Sanderson led his team to the stunning road victory. @wimpsanderson1 received encouragement from the Bryant family to still play the game despite the emotional circumstances. Bobby Lee Hurt scored 23 points for the Crimson Tide, while Ennis Whatley added 20.
In honor of Bryant, the players wore black patches on their uniform shoulders and never trailed against the Bruins. At one point the Crimson Tide built a 16-point lead, before UCLA rallied late to tie the game. In the final seconds, Alabama held on for the victory courtesy of three free throws, two from Mike Davis and one from Buck Johnson.
The 1982-83 Crimson Tide also had dominating non-conference wins against Southern California and Georgetown with Patrick Ewing, but things unraveled in SEC play as Alabama finished 20-12 overall and 8-10 in the conference.

Those who got to see Bryant and Saban coach were truly blessed as fans.

Coach Bryant passed away.. if you are old enough to remember, you know exactly where you were when you heard the news.
I wasn't even a Bama fan then and I remember.
The GOAT.

I was a sophomore in college. I went to Bear’s last three games. Had a blast at the Liberty Bowl. I will tell that story someday. But when I heard the news I was driving to traffic court. I had passed a car driving about 15 mph leaving my subdivision. Because I was not “fully” back in my lane when I entered onto a bridge (two lane bridge), it’s considered reckless driving. I wasn’t even speeding. Anyway I sorta won the case. But I was not able to process what had happened untill on my way home from court. I watched the funeral at a commuter lounge on campus. Remember as though it just happened.
