Looking at games against ranked opponents only… comparing home winning % to road winning % and taking the difference… since the 1980s
playing 1 v playing 25 is a huge discrepancy. Is this ranked at time of game or end of season? Also a huge discrepancy. Seems like a delta vs spread home vs away would be a better indicator of home field advantage. Haven’t really thought through it though.

Except that home field advantage is considered when setting the spread.

You are correct, but if you look at just win% against Top 10 teams, LSU is still #1 in advantage and Auburn is #2 since 2000. Same top two as Top 25 advantage.

End of season. At time of game is not an accurate measurement because a lot of Preseason Top 25 teams were never really close to being a true Top 25 team.

You are absolutely correct on this, but finding historical games spreads is a difficult task. And even if I did have access to them it would be very time consuming to figure.
