Saban’s Presence at Bama

Anyone think Saban is hanging around to undermine DeBoer and protect his legacy while making it seem like he’s “just there to help”?
I dealt with this exact scenario in my organization where our number 2 announced retirement, hosted her party, got all her accolades, and the new number 2 was named but then hung around unexpectedly for another 9 months or so just causing trouble. It was toxic as hell.

No. What a dumbass thing to say in public

I just hope you were a bouncer or doorman at that gay strip club.

Saban knows his time is up, but he is human and still wants to feel needed and involved. We all need a purpose.
His office is located no where near the football complex. He will probably be over some NIL stuff and give advice if asked, but I don't see him trying to heavy-hand Deboer. I don't have a problem with it. Dealing with recruiting is his specialty. If it gets to be more than that, we'll cross that bridge then.

Of course that’s what he’s doing. When he closes his office door he does an evil little laugh.

It depends on how hands on he is.
Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.
I'm guessing this off season we'll get a better idea of what Saban's role is going to actually be.
Before I retired from the military, I spent days D-90 thru D-61 having my replacements watch me do my job. I spent days D-60 thru D-31 watching them do my job and giving advice when I felt it was necessary, and stepping in a few times. D-30 - D-0, I said, "I'm not even here," and only answered the phone for my commander.

No, all Saban is doing is probably helping him transition into the role. Saban didn't like being bothered by others. Seriously doubt he will be meddling cause he didn't like it. He told boosters to frick off when he was first hired. DeBoer will probably go to him and ask for advice at times and ideas. He would be a fool not to given Saban's GOAT status.

Then there is the fact that no place else would want him running around their organization throwing tantrums like a two year old.

No. I think part of it is Coach Saban didn’t really want to retire right now in the first place. The whole NIL and transfer portal issue just frustrated him and worn him down and so he just decided all of a sudden to retire.
That brings us to the second part and that is I think he felt guilty just kind of deciding to go all at one without warning so he agreed to hang around and help Deboer establish himself when it comes to recruiting.

Whether intentional or not his presence is a distraction. The first time DeBoer loses a game the boosters are going to come charging through the door asking Saban what to do. If you're going to retire do it and get out of the way. I'm pretty sure he has room for a home office in his multi-million dollar house in Jupiter.

I mean, they’re down Bryant Drive from one another. But Saban abandoned his office in the football complex overlooking the practice field less than 24 hours after the retirement announcement. I get the feeling that he is completely done, and that this office thing in BDS was just a soft landing spot.
