What does that roster have to do with Saban's recruiting ability?

This screams that you're worried. I have no idea how he can recruit. I do know what will help him though.
1) Winning
2) NIL and the resources/facilities at Bama
3) Nick Saban is still gonna be on campus.

At least DeBoer is inheriting a solid program with a wellspring of resources, and even if you want to nit-pick at his resume (which isn’t bad at all, tbh) he’s clearly in the W bracket more often than not, has made the playoffs and got to a title game within 2 years at Washington…recruits will absolutely be interested.

NIL, facilities, and going pro does all the recruiting now. Once he starts scoring 35-40 a game recruiting will be easy

That's fair.
For all we know, he'll have enough support to develop into a top level recruiter.
Is concerning though since it is so critical and he has essentially no experience doing it anywhere near the level of what we require.

That's great. He still has to show it. It's a concern until we see what the 2025 class shapes to be. That's fine.
My concern is the defensive staff and retaining our roster. We need to keep TRob on if possible or get someone big time that has SEC ties for DC.
Harsin brought his entire Boise staff to Auburn. Wasn't great.

it is so critical

I think it’s a valid concern. But in my mind it’s the only thing that could keep his tenure from being unsuccessful

I am not concerned at this point. I am sure Byrne discussed the importance of recruiting in the SEC and told him that if he didn’t understand the landscape of SEC football then he needs to have coaches who do hell Bama can hire a director of recruiting and I’m sure if Nicks around the building he can accidentally bump into some of these kids when they’re on campus.

Deboer is going to have access to all of Saban's connections

I think Saban staying around the program will be huge and he can also help Introduce DeBeor to a lot of these coaches at these schools

He should pitch Ryan Williams as being his Julio Jones...that one elite recruit that gets the ball rolling.
But in this ridiculous NIL era, who knows. The game is radically different. I'm not going to expect the #1 class almost every year like Saban did. If we can just consistently pull in top 6-7 classes and stay in the same talent level as Georgia, Texas and LSU annually, we'll have the guns to compete for the 12 team playoff most every season. Now if we start pulling in the #14 class or something, then I might worry some. With Bama's tradition and resources, there's no excuse to not have top 10 classes every year. Right now, Kirby is king in the SEC. We have a guy, not a legend...but it's a guy with proven potential that will be fun to watch try to reclaim the SEC crown...or keep it since Bama is defending conference champs.

Do any of those names jump out to you as guys who were superstars?
The point is even Saban didn't recruit very well before he got to the SEC.

From Washington fans:
quote:
Washington didn't land any of the 4 or 5 stars from Washington last year (and despite WA not being a prep powerhouse, it still produces good talent, e.g., Emeka Egbuka at Ohio State played prep ball in Washington).
quote:
Washington fan here. It’s worse than OP is talking about. Look up Josh Conerlys recruitment. He’s from about a mile away from Husky stadium, and his family are DIEHARD dawgs. It was the most in the bag recruitment ever and dude went to fricking Oregon. lol. It’s so bad. Look at our cupboards now… there is one single player that started this year and was a KDB recruit, our center and I doubt he/ our o line coach who actually recruited him are going to Bama. If he brings Grubb, Grubb is an absolute zero in recruiting too, so your staff will be extra handicapped.
I could write pages about some of the WTF recruits we lost under KDB. He might be a worse recruiter than Chip Kelly. Idk how Bama plans to address this issue because it will be an absolutely glaring issue if not addressed. Courtney Morgan is a bum too. There was absolutely zero closers on this staff outside of Shepherd and Huff, and I’ll be surprised if either wind up at Bama.
Inge is a complete bum has literally only secured ONE single linebacker in 3 years…a 3 star, Brekterfield is shockingly bad at recruiting and coaching. Our DT coach just hired at San Diego state so none of those recruiting chops are available…Morrell is an anomaly. Your guess is as good as mine. Do you think the defense against Michigan was horrific with some brilliant play in the 2nd quarter or visa versa? Either answer is correct.
Sorry, I know I’m salty as frick, so do with this info as you please.

I don't get that at all. What it tells me is that Saban recruited nationwide, which De Boer absolutely will have to do at Alabama.

And yet, the entire Washington fan base looks like the aftermath of Chernobyl right now.

Because the guy didn't recruit and then up and left. He was a successful Harsin to them and left the program in worse shape than when he got it.

Looks like he can Recruit to me.
