Hope it's not true. But this looks like a very sudden decision....

based on what Saban was doing the last two days and Steele retiring just days before.
I've heard it could possibly have to do with a family health problem. Very sad if so.

It makes me curious why he decided to retire after a playoff loss.

Based on what he's been doing the past year and more it's not sudden at all.
Built a house around Miami and bought into all those Mercedes dealerships. It's been obvious all along once all that went through it was over.

Rumors swirling inside Birmingham that Terry Saban's health played a role in this.

Yet his daughter was quoted last week that the rumor was "silly". Why would she even comment if it was a health issue?

It’s all sad. Getting old sucks.

He’s been buying dealerships for years and he has multiple vacation homes

He wouldn’t tell his daughter.

The writing was on the wall. He invested in Mercedes, pretty much said this was his last go at it.

Is this the thread where people act like they care?

People plan retirement several years in advance. Those are things a lot of people do two to three years out easily with his finances.

What about his singing career?

Not sure what kind of planning is needed when you’re worth probably $100 million.

No one said you need to. But people do. And this isn't a guy that wouldn't have things planned like that to a tee.
I don't think he's a guy who would want a farwell tour. He wouldn't announce it and then coach a season. But nothing says he knew it would be today when he woke up this morning. Like I said, letting Steele retire when he knew he was gonna do it days later makes no sense.

Jimmy Buffet said it best, “getting old isn’t for wussies”.

The rumor that the OP is alluding to is that Terry Saban was diagnosed with Alzheimer's back in August.

It was his Ferrari purchase and $17.5 Million dollar home in FL that gave it away.
