The third and fourth best teams in the SEC this year won 11 games each. The SEC had five teams win 10+ games this season alone.
The third and fourth best teams in the Big 12 won 10 and 9 games each. The Big 12 had three teams win 10+ games this year.
I understand this argument, but I think scheduling is a big reason for this success.
The Big 12 plays 9 league games, which means more losses for all teams. In addition, I'm not comparing the Big 12 today vs the SEC. I know the SEC is stronger right now.
I'm comparing the SEC the last 12 years vs the Big 12 before A&M, Nebraska, Missouri & Colorado left. The Big 12 was a lot better league back then than they are today.
Texas has sucked the last 12 years. It doesn't matter if we played in the WAC or SEC or some other league. We would have still sucked.
Likewise, if Texas from 2000-2009 had played in the SEC or Big 12 or some other league, Texas would have still had a really good team.
The schedule makes a big difference.

You are about to have the feeling you are stuck in mud once you go thru the SEC schedule
And now with the 12 playoffs you might have to play those top teams again

This board is so fricking awful some -- almost all -- of the time.

There is no comparison. The National Championship results show this. The SEC was better then and now.

quote:Correct. The difference is you're not going to play against TCU or Baylor or Kansas or West Virgina, you're going to play against Ole Miss and Texas A&M and Florida and Missouri. Notice I didn't say any of the top 3 teams in our conference but rattled off teams that are either top ten teams or recruit at an insanely high level every year. That's the difference between the SEC and the Big 12 and has been the difference for a long time, well past the last 10 years - every team you play in this conference is a good team with good players. Can't say the same for the nine-game Big 12 slate.
The schedule makes a big difference.
