Towards the end of the Saban era, the coaching staff took a dive in quality.

At times, we'd take exception with Key's or Cristobal's coaching because they weren't Pendry or Stoutland but truly Alabama didn't have a bad OL coach until 2021 with Doug Marrone then Eric Wolford was not turning out any better. Tommy Rees was clearly not the first choice to be OC and was probably not even the 2nd choice but I can't confirm that one. The most tenured assistant was Holoman Wiggins who I'd already grown suspect of his coaching after seeing how poorly the depth developed in 2021 and the generally poor performance of the WRs in 2022 and 2023.

Saban was struggling with hiring good coaches because of his age. Look at all the coaches who weren't retained by the new staff. Some of them may still be out of a job or had to take a paycut beside. Hard to make quality young coaches sign on for that possibility. Instead, we had a lot of late-career guys like Steele or people lucky that you asked like Rees.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with you, because I almost never agree with anything you've ever said but with this I do. I think one thing that hurt CNS with hiring GOOD assistants is that he was (for better or worse) a 24K hard arse to work for and everyone knew this.

My theory is a lot of good assistants took the attitude of "Thanks, but no thanks" and that the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. So, we were left with guys who were either at the end of their career or were just so so. The idea was, Bama could still recruit a lot of really good players and the talent could overcome some of the mediocre assistant coaches. And to a large extent, it worked.

That's not to say ALL assistants were mediocre but clearly some were toward the end.

Anyone got an email for Boz? Want to run something by him, or one of the other mods, before posting it.

Bless their hearts. He's absolutely brutal. He might have been a good assistant at one time in his career, but he's playing out the string at this point. After Marrone and Wolford, there's nowhere to go but up at this point in terms of OL coaching.

I'm sorry you're allergic to the correct opinion.

Nah, not yet. I've only shared it in a small group of friends and even 2 of them didn't believe me and gave me a ton of shite. This forum would be toxic as frick if my friends were that prickly over it.

Plus, it involves major boosters, Byrne, and the coaching search. Information that kinda goes against the public narrative. Wanted to see how the mods feel about it before I share it.

edit: This place is becoming a fricking shite show.

It's a forum. The mods can't tell the members here to believe you or not to give you shite. And the mods have no inside info (maybe Boz) or a better feel for what is true or not than anyone else here. Just post it. The worst that will happen is a few downvotes and some replies saying you are full of it. No one will remember it in three weeks either way.

No, that's not why I'm concerned. I'm questioning if this should be public info at all, because it can only hurt(more mildly embarrassing than anything) the school, and potentially a friend of mine if the booster gets mad it was made public from his employee. Hence why I was trying to get a mods email see if they thought I should even post it.

You shouldn't need another party to tell you not to do something that could potentially hurt a friend.

I say this respectfully

I mean, yes and no. I could probably make it vague enough that it's ok. But does reflect somewhat negatively on Bama, Byrne, and Deboer.

I just asked for an email, its become a bigger deal than it needed to be.

That’s way different. Don’t hurt a friend or anyone intentionally that hasn’t wronged you

If it’s just gonna stir shite or potentially hurt your friend then just keep it to yourself because no matter what the gossip is it’s not that serious.

Why would an Alabama fan ever want to post something that they know could be detrimental to the University, its AD, or the Head Coach? I just don't see how it's even up for consideration.

Let me go ahead and make a decision for you: Don't post it. don't share it. don't mention it again.

Justification: if it's a information that can pretty much point to your friend in any way, then that person will be pissed at you for that, no matter how vague you make it.

Whatever you heard, it's the same thing at Auburn, UNA, LSU, UNC, USC, and etc. What's new to you, may not be news to some of us.

The idea that anybody would even consider posting anything that could negatively impact the University of Alabama…

All so we could be in awe of your abilities as a name dropper. Come on, kid.

Shut the frick up. It's nothing like that, I said its mildly embarrasing for the school more than anything else. But it's interesting and it's the fricking off-season. I asked for an email and this shite got blown up.
