that Alabama has seen all year ? They are very good on that side of the ball. Solid secondary and big defensive tackles.

Maybe. Statistically yes but Georgia’s may be better.

In terms of pure talent I think that Texas and Texas A&M were better but Michigan is very good.

Michigan is very solid. I do think the Big Ten this year has a lot of bad offensive teams and to their credit they held those teams down. Not as successful the last couple games prior to Iowa.

From a talent perspective Texas and Georgia are both better.

From an analytics perspective Michigan is better. Michigan and Ohio State were top 2 in DF+. Texas and Georgia were 6-7.

The numbers I'm referencing were entering CC week.

For reference we were 9th.

They're very good, I'm not sure how exactly they compare to Georgia. Ohio State had pretty solid success against them (24 pts, 6.52 YPP) and Ohio State was an above average offense.

Their general numbers are obviously inflated because they played so many truly dreadful offenses, but that doesn't mean they aren't a really good unit.

Right. The first half of their schedule was awful. Michigan State is also horrendous this year and that is normally a hotly contested game. Penn State is terrible on offense this year. Ohio State is clearly the best team that they played and that game was in Ann Arbor.

Iowa is beyond bad on offense. Their defense is good but I don’t think that they could score on Michigan if they played three straight games against them.

Hard to know. Ohio State is the only offense they have played that can compete with them and they moved the ball pretty well on the road with a worse QB than us.

This 'best" thing is hard. I laughed when I saw really poor payout for betting on Iowa under .5 pts UM did the expected to a team that represented 1/2 the conference

IoWa a conference championship representative team has been shut out 2x this year and a quick look shows they, in conference, scored 116 pts over 11 games. I don't think it's great D holding IA down but their bad O propping up Def stats

Would already be done, along with the models for Washington and Texas, if you were a real fan ;)

They've played the following offenses per SP+

#25 Ohio State (24 pts, 378 yds)
#26 Penn State (15 pts, 238 yds)
#35 UNLV (7 pts, 229 yds)
#52 Maryland (24 pts, 262 yds)

#86 Bowling Green
#89 Purdue
#98 Rutgers
#103 Indiana
#105 Minnesota
#122 Michigan St
#123 Nebraska
#126 ECU
#127 Iowa

That's incredible. 9 of the 13 offenses they played are ranked 86th or worse. 6 of the 13 offenses they've played (almost half) are ranked outside the top 100!

I really believe that they are very good as a unit but they haven’t been challenged at all outside of Ohio State. Maryland gave them some trouble late in the season. Other than that, the B1G has no good offenses. Question is, can Alabama improve over the next few weeks and can Milroe improve his game to be able to score enough to beat them ?

No. Georgia is better, faster and bigger. Better coached as well.

I’d take Texas A&M’s front over theirs as well any day.

Michigan is a very solid defense but they benefit by playing dreadful offenses in their conference.

Alabama is a horrible matchup for Michigan. I would be shocked to see us lose this one. Maybe if we play poorly and they play their A+ game but I see our defense feasting. They run the ball a lot and try to out physical you…that ain’t happening.

Our O line will lean on them all night and Milroe’s legs will give them fits. Our WR speed will be a mismatch too.

They played a weaker schedule (47th SOS). Ohio State is the best offense they played all season at 32nd scoring offense. Understand, Ohio State had massive QB problems all season with McCord. Milroe improved over the season; I'm not sure McCord did all that much. So they have a great scoring defense.

They have a very high takeaway number (7th) but average sack rate (35th) for such an exceptional scoring defense. This reminds me a lot of some our earlier Nick Saban defenses (2008) by statistics. Their lack of QB sacks may be a sign of lacking QB pressure in general...those two things are usually closely linked.

To me, I see an opportunity here because Milroe loves to scan for splash plays. They've seen better WRs than ours with Ohio State but McCord was a hot mess in that game. With that said, Harrison cooked em and could've been worse if his QB wasn't a loser. Additionally, we really ate them up with over routes with the slot in the Citrus Bowl a few years back. They're tough to run on but that is the perfect time to hit a team with QB run packages to work the numbers to the offense's advantage.

I do wonder how they A. React to seeing a quarterback as athletic as Milroe and B. Can Milroe improve over the next few weeks and not make big mistakes that could cost us ? We haven’t played our best game yet. Hopefully we’re saving the best for last.

No. Numbers aside, Texas A&M and Georgia both have better defenses. Michigan has inflated numbers due to playing really poor offenses most of the year.
