1978 Alabama
10-1 Regular Season
11-1 Total
Bama loses to Southern Cal during 3rd game of season by a score of 24-14.
Southern Cal lost to an underwhelming 9-3 Arizona State by a score of 20-7 during their 5th game of the season. Finished season at 12-1 win a win over 10-2 Michigan.
Bama was undefeated the rest of their season and beat #1 Penn State to win the NC that season. Finished at 11-1.
Bama won the polls (AP, FWAA, NFF)
USC won the poll (UPI)
Fast forward to present times:
Bama loses to Texas during 2nd game of season but goes undefeated the rest of the way.
Texas loses to an underwhelming team in Oklahoma, just as Southern Cal did with Arizona State.
Both Alabama and Texas finish the rest of their seasons undefeated.
And tomorrow, Alabama will again beat the #1 team in the nation, just as they did with Penn State to secure the NC in '78. The other two games are just a formality as Alabama will easily prevail.
Texas will play an insignificant team, much like Michigan was in '78 for Southern Cal, and win the game and say they WUZ ROBBED at a chance for a NC!
Roll Tide!

Or how bout Bama’s 1941 National Championship…
quote:
Alabama (9-2) had lost to Mississippi State (SEC champs) and Vanderbilt. The Tide finished ranked 20th in the Associate Press Poll, behind four SEC teams. Minnesota (8-0) swamped Duke (9-0) - now coached by Wallace Wade - in the final poll voting with 84.5 to 9.5 first-place votes. (1941 AP Poll) Minnesota swept the consensus picks (AP, CFRA, HAF, NCF). How can you be a national champion when you do not win your conference, were ranked 20th and had two more losses than the consensus champion? 1941 was the last year anyone claimed a championship who did not win the AP or Coaches Poll. Only Houlgate picked Alabama.

lsu fans have their Heisman national championship threads to pollute; please keep this one free of the trash.
lsu has no merit to contribute here.

No topics in the thread are remotely related to lsu. Please do not continue to think about Alabama.

Alabama will again beat the #1 team in the nation,
Even if that’s the case, Bama still not getting into the CFP. Washington already have locked up 1 spot. That leaves 3 spots left for 6 teams.
#1 UGA-12-0
#2 Michigan-12-0
#4 FSU-12-0
#6 Ohio State-11-1
#7 Texas-11-1
#8 Bama-11-1
We got an an idea over the last few weeks what the committee thinks of Bama and Ohio State. Ohio State loses and only drops 4 spots #6. Even if Bama beats UGA, you will have some people still voting them in the CFP. Bama losses to Texas by 10 at home, while UGA would lose on a neutral field. Bama could still win, and UGA could be #4, and and Bama end up at #5. Bama would need both Michigan and FSU to lose for them to have a chance.
CFP with UGA losing.
1. Michigan- 13-0
2. Washington- 13-0
3. FSU- 13-0
4. UGA- 12-1
5. Texas- 12-1
6. Bama- 12-1
7. Ohio State- 11-1
UGA winning SEC
1. UGA
2. Michigan
3. Washington
4. FSU/Texas

Don't like 'em. A lot of them smell like carnival food, almost like a corndog.
