It is the idea situation with petrino focusing on the offense and someone else focusing on recruiting, roster management, media relations, fundraising, etc.

Petrino is a good offensive coach, he is a bad program manager.

The wheels constantly fall off in year 4/5 of Petrino's programs where roster management and recruiting first starts to show itself. Happened at Louisville twice, happened here, it even happened at Missouri state.

Sam let's his coordinators do pretty much whatever they want with their side of the ball, so you can get the best out of the coordinators without having to deal with the worst of good coordinators who are bad managers.

Pitt is able to attract better position coaches than petrino was, at Louisville every relative in the coaching world was on his staff. If Pitt fires Kennedy this week he can show performance matters above personal relationships or loyalty to assistants, but the issue here is petrino will work with whomever not demand the offensive staff is filled with his guys...

Sam said there would more changes in the staff. Good to have a coach who wants improvement.

Going to be interesting when we inevitably improve. We'll see who gets the credit for winning. Hopefully we don't have a Roger Waters/David Gilmour situation on our hands.

Bobby had a weak coaching staff because he was the brain of everything that went on. He was probably a strict micromanager.

Sam needs an above average staff as he is an idiot in comparison to Petrino.

He was an absolute nerd when it came to the game.

Petrino must not have been too much of a bad program manager, leaving Bert talent for only him to waste it in his first three years.

Then what’s the point of paying Sam HC money? It’s one thing for Bobby to run the offense but ultimately whose team is it? Everything you listed for Sam is support and could be done by football staff.

Also curious how much money Bobby will make and what happens when someone offers him more money than what OC pays? I know he’s happy to be back and he loves it, but everyone here would take the jump in pay from OC to HC.
