Steve Spurrier went:

5-6
7-3-1
8-4

Every coach in the 20 years prior to him had overall losing records.

Every coach between 1989 and Elko had a losing record. Cutcliffe did have a 10-win season and a 9-win season, but overall, his record was 77-97.

Duke went 3-9 the year prior to Elko.

Who knows if he would have been able to sustain it, but immediately taking over Duke and having two winning seasons there is impressive.

I agree. They also had zero drafted players last year so he clearly didn’t have a ton to work with

It's the fricking ACC... It's the same as turning around Colorado state and getting a job at Florida. How'd that go?

Not impressive enough to pay $75 million just to change horses.
