Might as well start thinking about what next year's team could look like... who are we losing to the draft? How will various units improve or decline?

Biggest loss IMO is in the defensive backfield. Biggest clear path to improvement is wide receiver.

Defense - Overall I think it's tough to see us having a better defense than we did this year given how many NFL quality DBacks we're losing. Maybe if we are able to create a solid pass rush next year.

Dbacks - Next year this is actually crazy. We probably lose 3 legit draft picks (Simpson, James, Pritchett) along with potentially losing a 4th (Puckett). Our starters will still be good, but a step down, but we aren't going to have nearly the depth we did this year.

LB - Doubt we lose anyone other than the seniors - McAllister and Nixon. This group may actually improve.

DL - Losing our best (Marcus Harris) but getting a lot of bodies back and Faulk gets another year of development.

Offense - Clear path to upgrading at WR, Oline is a push with a improvement upside and RB should be a push. It all comes down to an improvement at QB.

QB - We need to hit the portal. That is all.

WR - We're not losing anything at WR (though we had little to start). We still need a WR #1. If just one 5* kid can pan out to become a #1 WR, that opens things up for everyone else. I think this position group will be better next year.

RB - Think we lose Hunter. That said, there's a stable behind him so will be OK here.

OLine - Patchwork again, though filling fewer holes this time. Going to go out on a limb and say slight improvement.

He will be back. He’s not highly regarded as an NFL prospect.

With NIL, there might be a few people tempted to stick around an extra season and work to improve their draft stock.

Don't have any faith that their recruiting will be enough to compensate for the coaching staff's massive in game coaching failures. 7 - 5 or 6 - 6 again next year is likely. I had almost forgiven them for the blown UGA game and then NMSU happened and they followed it up with 4th and 31. Our staff is nowhere close to worth the amount of money they are paid and are directly responsible for 2 of the most pathetic losses in AU history in back to back weeks. Why are most of them still employed today?

Hard to say right now. We really need to land Cam Coleman and our WR room will be dramatically upgraded.

People are sleeping on Perry Thompson. He is the gem of the class up to date

NMSU is up there.

The Bama loss was far from "pathetic". Those kids played their damn hearts out. The team was putting it all on the line that whole game. The game was lost because of a handful of blown plays with two in particular.

(1) muff punt
(2) 4th and 31

The 4th and 31 was one of the dumbest defensive playcalls I've seen in a long long long time.

I'm definitely not. He has a chance to come in and be WR1 from day 1. Having a real WR1 changes the whole WR room.

Thompson is a potential AJ Brown type of impact as a freshman.

Cam Coleman has the upside of a George Pickens, Braylon Edwards, or AJ green.

Having both would be unreal.

I honestly think WR is our worst position group overall. Need several reinforcements next year

If we add Coleman to the current three we have committed it’ll be a strength.

Saddest thing about it is with just a little more help from receivers the game could have been out of reach for those two mistakes to make the difference.

Honestly Freeze can make a great recruiting pitch that the staff can scheme people open, and they just need players to execute.

THIS!!!! With a more effective receiving Corp and better containment of the QB run, we win by 2 scores at least.

If one of Thompson/Coleman becomes WR1 and the other is serviceable as WR2 or WR3, that means out of Fair, Johnson, and Burton we just need a WR2 and/or slot guy. Fairweather can be used as a TE is supposed to be (not the team's leading WR).

If Ryan Williams were to commit all bets are off. He's complementary to Thompson/Coleman. More of a deep threat with legit track speed and wiggle. The rest of the WR room is probably suddenly competing for WR3 and second string at that point.

Some of you guys are confusing players not making plays with poor coaching. Fairweather drops a few over the middle and the muffed punt are not coaching. The last play was on the DC, however if #4 uses the sideline as and extra defender and makes a play on the ball it looks like a good call. When was the last time we rushed for 250 yards and had receivers wide open on that many plays vs a Saban coached Alabama?

We have no faith in Walker White as an incoming freshman?

100% Agree

muffed punt
Mixed... guys who get zero game reps shouldn't be fielding punts or kicks. Coach needs to make fielding punts a point of emphasis. That said, you've gotta catch that or get away from it.

It would still be an awful call just with a future NFL defensive back making a play and covering up a mistake.

Exactly - in aggregate the Iron Bowl was a great game both from a player effort perspective and coaching perspective. Ron Roberts had a critical mental error (or Hugh Freeze or whoever called that defense). Koy Moore had a critical error. There were a handful of huge drops by WR. One big coverage breakdown (the long touchdown). I don't put the 4th and goal on DJ James.

True freshman QBs don't tend to light it up in the SEC.

I'm excited he's coming. But not to be a day 1 starter.
